Mammoth Grinder – Undying Spectral Resonance

A supremely intense listen is something that many strive for with many accomplishing that in spades, but few are able to back it up with real substance and finesse. To do so is to be viciously intimate with your sound and all that it can be. Despite having gone virtually silent in the studio since their last album six years ago, Mammoth Grinder’s return picks up where they left off with the same madness, intensity, and deep understanding of their craft that was prevalent then.

Six years is more than enough time for things to change within and without a group of people, and Mammoth Grinder was no exception. Having been, at the very least, put on the back burner as its members were busy in other projects with plenty thinking the project was done, Mammoth Grinder’s resurrection comes as a pleasant surprise and one that feels immensely fitting for such an intense act of the underground. Having made their mark with a brutal approach of death metal uncompromising in their last record, it’s in the five tracks of the forthcoming EP, “Undying Spectral Resonance”, that such chaos continues unabated and unchained by the reality it is borne from. Simply massive in what it brings to the table despite its short run time that barely stretches over fourteen minutes, three of which are an atmospheric interlude, “Undying Spectral Resonance” is well and truly unrelenting for all that it brings to the table with surprising depth in its differences in pacing, execution, and lyrical themes that make this comeback fantastically flavorful and carnivorous in nature with the very touch of this EP toxic to those unprepared for what’s to follow. Voracious to the most horrifying extent, “Undying Spectral Resonance” may be brief, but it lingers with you as its claws have sunk immeasurably deep without your very spirit.

Everybody loves a good comeback. Mammoth Grinder was widely considered finished by many throughout the scene to make this return all the sweeter with the power and ferocity to back it all up a real display of power that’s not to be underestimated. For all that one can have before they dive into the maddening deeps of “Undying Spectral Resonance”, weakness simply cannot be one of them less Mammoth Grinder pulverize you in an instant.
