Unfettered darkness is what the seething floor of the underground was made for. There are tons of bands out there that seek to embody that very madness with their own approach to a sound whether or not it seeks to carve out a unique path in whatever genre is in question, but the fact remains that there simply aren’t that many acts out there that are able to deliver such a performance in a meaningful capacity. Real menace and undeniable blasphemy are prerequisites for such intensity with only the most deprived able to truly tap into that chaos, and that’s not even taking into consideration the musical aspect of it all. With a promising name like Putrid Vomit Christ, this Vietnamese act delivers where many others have fallen short.

When dealing with intensity of this particular variety, it’s often the case that bands seek one of two paths to garner listeners: (1) achieve such high blasphemy that one cannot help but become enticed by the dark flames therein, or (2) weave such a dense tapestry that the inquisitive nature of potential foolish listeners walk willingly into their doom. Both are admirable and terrifying when done right, but it’s simply not often whatsoever that we’re met with a band that can do both like what Putrid Vomit Christ achieves here. Within just five tracks, “Perpetual Intercourse” proves itself to be an immeasurably dark and obscene creation that seeks to blot out the very sun with its power as blasphemy, occultism, and sodomy blanket this pathetic world with Putrid Vomit Christ the heralds of the End Times. Wielding a surprising amount of riffs that pair fantastically well with the oppressive heaviness of black-doom of an ilk that we simply don’t see often enough, Putrid Vomit Christ basks in a dark light that is warm to the touch but simply toxic in nature as it’s every given facet of this record that is meant to rend the soul and sear the flesh as the slow pacing of the record can effortlessly ramp up to peel your bones clean in an instant. “Perpetual Intercourse” could have effortlessly fallen apart as it tried to be too much with not nearly enough substance to make up for its obscenities, but it’s made clear time and time again that Putrid Vomit Christ was more than up for the task.

There are many different forms that true insanity can come in, and Putrid Vomit Christ are certainly tapping into that maddening realm with everything that they’ve brought to the table here. Brief but nonetheless a devastatingly engaging start for a band that can really make a name for themselves in the deep underground given everything that’s been done here, “Perpetual Intercourse” is the nasty, unyielding, and pummeling creation that the underground was simply came for.
