A little bit of flavor can carry your sound an incredibly long way with those able to bring forth a certifiable load of it almost guaranteed for nothing short of excellence by all accounts so long as they know how to balance it all in the right proportions. The swirling cauldron of doom is never once lacking in tantalizing bits for bands to choose from when crafting their sound with even the newer acts still capable of delivering something immense and powerful so long as they follow the recipe correctly while always ensuring room for their own personal touches. A massive slab of stoner-tinged doom that has loads of room to grow despite already being quite potent, Shrineburner takes full control of all that cauldron has to offer with their first offering.

This is an underground find the likes of which these dark caverns were all but made for. Heaviness unbound that’s led by raw vocals howling from nothingness while the immense musicianship takes hold of everything that there is, Shrineburner taps into much of what has always made the stoner doom metal style such a treat to lose ourselves in while always making more than enough room for their own personalities to soak in and really give the listener an idea of what they can be. Far more than a mere clone of revered stoner doom acts that have come before, it’s throughout the three tracks of “Solitude” that Shrineburner puts on an undeniably potent performance that’s felt right from the get-go with no solace to be had for miles around as it’s only in the fading notes of the effort that Shrineburner adds any sort of reprieve from the onslaught that’s on full display in these twenty-seven minutes. A true deluge of titanic presence that is always lurching forward like some massive creation made in spite of God, “Solitude” is always more than ready to grab the listener by the throat and drench the earth with far-flung entrails brought about by wide riffs and an undeniable attitude that permeates the very entirety of what we’re dealing with here. A rock solid performance from the moment it makes landfall, Shrineburner does no less than lay the groundwork for further greatness with this utterly heavy creation.

It’s hard enough to make for a decent impression with just three tracks, yet that hasn’t stopped Shrineburner whatsoever from doing just that and far more with all that they’ve managed to bring to the table for a find that any of us should be happy we stumbled upon. Doom metal the likes of which the underground feels truly made for, “Solitude” is what many of us are constantly salivating for.
