Daedric Shryne – s/t

At any given moment, we’re always ready for the next surprise to come leaping at us from out of nowhere. It doesn’t matter where it might come from in terms of style or who might be the one to put it out, but people are constantly on the edges of the seats as we lie in way for a new creation to come around and really impress us from top to bottom. Sometimes, those creations come in the form of a seemingly humble entrance that may not be enough for people to investigate upon an initial look, but those who look further within know damn well what’s before them. As I find myself before the debut EP from Daedric Shryne, I cannot help but feel as though I’ve stumbled upon gold.

The makings of greatness are oftentimes subjective as one person’s sense for splendor can vary wildly from the next given the differences in taste and everything else that might go into a person’s preference, yet it can be exceedingly hard to ignore to signs when they’re staring at you blatantly, uncompromised nor diminished in any form whatsoever. Daedric Shryne brought only six tracks to a self-titled debut that doesn’t even cross over thirteen minutes overall in runtime, but this work is a magnificent example of what it means to use your time wisely and when to make the perfect strike. Across practically every given minute of this album, Daedric Shryne channels only the finest aspects of what has always made heavy metal such a powerhouse in the first place with not so much as a shred of that majesty lost in translation in this particular scenario. A brief but nonetheless ferocious tale of steel, blood, and battle with more than enough melody and riff-fueled intensity that really gets the blood flowing in a way that will make you follow every step of Daedric Shryne for it is sure to lead to victory if not bloody glory in the most worthy defeat. This is heavy metal straight. This is undeniable intoxication with talent already on the table as we skip right pass the promising stage of a band’s earliest days and, instead, have jumped right to the point where one must demand that this is a band that must have an eye kept closely on.

There’s already so much here in just six tracks that are indicative of heavy metal pedigree the likes of which we’re always clamoring for more of yet rarely get, and it’s every sense I have that tingles in the presence of Daedric Shryne. Surely, this is an act that is meant to achieve excellence. Much like what recent years have brought for the likes of Eternal Champion, Visigoth, and others, Daedric Shryne is sure to make waves. We need simply to offer them time.
