The style doesn’t matter as each one has quite an impressive list of newcomers and veterans making all the right moves to establish dominance in each scene whose competition can only be considered cutthroat. As such, it can be only the finest that make waves and stand out. As one of those acts, Acid Magus has been making all the right moves since their debut just three years ago. Now, with the impending arrival of their third opus, Acid Magus is primed to make its biggest performance to date.

It’s always tempting to say that any up-and-coming band is constantly getting better with each album a significant improvement over the last, but much like the use of the term “highly anticipated” such notions are thrown around with no real discipline or weight in most. Only in scenarios like what we have here with the arrival of “Scatterling Empire” do we see those ideals brought to fruition with nothing left on the table nor any semblance of mastery not conveyed damn near perfectly. Having always been the sort of act to deliver heaviness of a truly transcendent sort that pulls from the realms of doom, stoner, punk, and classic rock with more than a little psychedelia to make for a truly dense amalgamation that have effortlessly fallen apart in lesser hands, Acid Magus feels right at home before such a swirling cauldron of sounds that they’ve conducted masterfully to not just add a bold new entry into their growing discography but ensure that 2025 has an immediately bombastic beginning. Riffs abound with more than a little bit of an experimental approach alongside themes of braking the shackles of tyranny and freeing yourself to become what you were always meant to be, “Scatterling Empire” is as dense as it is intricate. A liberating work that sees Acid Magus stick to its guns while still being able to spread its wings for all to see, “Scatterling Empire” is the work that Acid Magus has been building up to for three years with the pay-off simply exquisite.

The sort of magic that one can only expect to see from names making it work in the underground with all the promise and potential that one could ask for, the legend of Acid Magus has only grown exponentially with everything that they’ve brought to the table for this marvelous creation. “Scatterling Empire” is many things. An expansive experience that has much to offer should you simply choose to thrust yourself before the conflict and salvation that’s to be found within, Acid Magus has genuinely crafted something fascinating for the third time in a row.
