The instrumental space in the underground is not for the uncommitted. If you’re going to try and deliver something with no voice, you need to make damn sure that you can deliver a performance that really delivers on virtually every given front to bring forth an album that swallows you whole, giving the listener all that the act has to offer. There are few things that can compare to the bliss of listening to real masters craft something of note after years of honing their craft, and few embody that as well as Distant Dream. A presence that’s been one to respect for years now, it’s with their latest effort that the Polish act furthers the trends they’ve come to embody.
It is one thing to become adept at your sound simply due to the fact of toiling away for years on end before something finally sticks. It’s something else altogether to bear witness to bonafide masters carving out a path for themselves that isn’t just set apart from their peers, but one that pushes the genre as a whole forward into territory that wouldn’t feel as fleshed out or engaging should the band never have gotten together. Having been a name that has always delivered instrumental glory for some time, the absolute entirety of “End of the World We Know” brings about a trip through the cosmos that this band is all too well equipped to bring forth and execute in such a fashion that is nigh on compelling. Accompanied by more than a few friends to bring the album together in spectacular form, these nine tracks are the culmination of an underground sweetheart ascending to a level that we should have seen coming, and to witness it can only be likened to watching your children grow into its own adult with pride and wonder overwhelming all of your other senses. More than capable of ripping solos right alongside spaced-out notes that constantly beckon the listener to explore the stars, Distant Dream taps into everything that has always made post-rock and post-metal such a particular treat for those who know what it can be with “End of the World We Know” more than tapping into that potential in practically every given minute.
Dynamic in every regard and more than dreamlike for every massive step it takes, Distant Dream accomplishes much within these nine utterly captivating tracks that bring about nothing short of otherworldly splendor. Simply trance-inducing in many instances while always somehow finding time for intensity when the moment calls for it, “End of the World We Know” is a dense creation that begs exploration for any and all who claim to be fans of this style. Distant Dream has become truly known for bringing instrumental glory to great lengths with their latest excursion something that also deserves to be hailed for all that it dares to be.
