Morpholith – Dystopian Distributions of Mass Produced Narcotics

Always has it been the case that those who dare are oftentimes those that succeed. A little bit can go a long way in the right hands with that still absolutely being an obvious truth in the current state of the underground. In a realm of heaviness like what doom and sludge bring to the table more times than not, it can be a simple approach that can catch the eyes of many with a more nuanced creation that knows precisely what to do right from the get-go an experience that few can deny. It can take years for any band to reach such heights and establish themselves as a name that can deliver such grandeur, yet there are those that can seize it surprisingly quickly. Despite having only two EPs under the belt before this, Morpholith makes itself known as just such an act with its first full-length album.

In my time doing these reviews, I have seen more than enough talk that the respective realms of stoner and doom metal have been in a real drought when it comes to new material in many forms whether it be in terms of raw talent or a name that’s able to come around and actually make their impact known even a little bit. Vehemently, I disagree. It’s only a matter of looking in the right places and being patient as not every act is going to be the one that catches you by surprise. That being said, I vividly remembering discovering Morpholith and knowing the act was onto something, and it’s in every step taken with “Dystopian Distributions of Mass Produced Narcotics” that I’m able to see that hunch come to magnificent fruition. Embracing their stoner tendencies to ensure a solid layer of psychedelia while always ensuring that there’s so much more to dive into, it’s in the seven immense tracks of this record that Morpholith channels their sludgy side to dramatic and stupendous effect. Crushing in its unforgiving intensity and never once backing down from whatever they find themselves before, Morpholith quickly makes itself known as an entity that is more than adept at taking its time to make damn sure its craft is executed precisely with all the power and grandeur that one could ask for from such a sound. Where many seek a relatively tame approach, it’s in every turn throughout “Dystopian Distributions” that Morpholith constantly exceeds expectations and constantly impresses for all that it dares to be.

Simply addicting in its heaviness and unwavering in its devotion to the craft, Morpholith has quickly become a name that demands to be watched closely. This is the sort of intensity that the scene is perpetually on the lookout for with such instances consistently worthy of praise and intense investigation. Never once dropping the ball, ensuring the meaning of a slow burn is taking very seriously, and keeping the high potent at all times, Morpholith has brought immense justice and spectacle to a sound that many would foolishly claim is on the decline.
