While there’s still more than enough excellence to be had in the old school of death metal, there is nothing that can compare to when a band manages to go off on their own and craft a sound that is their own even if it doesn’t reinvent the wheel in any stretch. Constantly are there plenty of names out there that have made a reputation for themselves in delivering such intensity, and Phrenelith is absolutely one of them. Having made a name for themselves as a certifiable force of nature that’s not to be underestimated in the slightest, it’s with their forthcoming effort that the band’s prowess is only heightened exponentially.

We’ve seen plenty of acts come and go over the years who has a rise that was downright meteoric in more ways than one. While an impressive debut is something that is worthy of accolades all on its own, it’s in keeping that momentum going that we see the difference between the interesting and the clearly talented acts that know precisely what they’re doing. In the case of Phrenelith, it’s apparent in damn near every form that this is such an act that has knows how to continuously deliver. A real force of death metal that knows how to put forth a significantly layered and satisfyingly intricate display, “Ashen Womb” stands as Phrenelith’s third album that simply feels like the natural continuation of what Phrenelith has become known for its in run thus far. Utterly pummeling while still having a tremendous sense of when to pull back and offer a sense of macabre beauty even as the world itself falls apart around the listener, it’s for the whole of “Ashen Womb” that we see a display of ferocity that’s nigh on harrowing from beginning to end. The name of Phrenelith has become something that many have given loads of respect as the years have piled on, and it’s with all of “Ashen Womb” that this act only expands upon their reputation with an offensive that is nothing if not grand and unyielding.

Already has 2025 seen more than a bit come our way in terms of death metal magnificence, and Phrenelith gives the sound an explosion of power and tenacity that simply cannot be denied. As a name that has been rising practically since day one, “Ashen Womb” sees the very best aspects of the band come forward. Acting as the natural evolution of the band’s sound and a signalling of the cataclysm that is sure to wrap all before it in pyroclastic flow, Phrenelith capitalizes on the opportunity in every possible instance.
