Warlung – The Poison Touch

I still find it a damn shame that many think the modern state of rock music is in a decline of nay sort. The decades past have given us undeniable legends and massive performances of a kind that are never anything underestimate, but it demands to be made clear there is still glory to be had from the newer blood that seek to deliver their own brand of glory that does naught but bring justice for the genre as a whole. Currently, there are legions of rising acts out there that are nigh on promising for all that they have yet to deliver and amongst all they’ve already shown off, and Warlung definitely deserves a place in that conversation. With the arrival of their fifth work, Warlung’s light only grows massively with all that’s been summoned here.

As tempting as it can be the do the same thing over and over again as a band, it tends to be the case that people crave change in some form or another with oftentimes the finest bands finding a way to advance their sonic approach in a way that feels fresh and invigorating while ensuring that the very DNA of the sound itself is still preserved. It can be an exceedingly tricky thing to pull off, yet bands like Warlung find a way. After establishing their intoxicating sound over the course of four albums across just five years, Warlung knew what kind of excellence they had with the very whole of “The Poison Touch” something that some of the band’s most compelling work to date on damn near every level. A real love letter to classic rock as well as modern metal with more than a little bit of that psychedelic nudge that has always persisted in the band’s sound, “The Poison Touch” is the culmination of eight years of demonstrating what new blood can still bring to the mix, especially when those hands aren’t afraid to stand out even in the smallest of ways. Warlung has rightfully become synonymous with as their craft has evolved into something captivating, engaging, and a true bulwark of what it means to meld old and new ideals in a single imposing form with the results to match such ambition.

Even as we find ourselves in a time where many favor what’s already been done far more than thinking of what can still be accomplished, acts like Warlung are why many of us know damn well that the heart of rock music is more than well intact. A bold declaration of what it means to stay the course while constantly finding new ways to propel yourself forward, “The Poison Touch” feels as natural as it is electrifying from the likes of Warlung.
