It’s not terribly often that we get a band of certifiable legends come together and make music together. Even rarer do we see them release material at a solid rate. All the more rare still is to see a bustling release schedule despite how busy the musicians are in many other acts. Yawning Balch has set itself apart from the crowd for all of those reasons as it was in 2023 they made their debut on the stage, and it was clear with their second effort later that year that Yawning Balch was going to be a name to remember whenever they inevitably returned. Now, less than two full years later, they’re back with the first of another pair of releases that’s sure to take 2025 to the edge of what psychedelia can still be in rock music.

As bonafide legends of their sounds, the people behind Yawning Balch need no introduction nor any sort of help from anyone to make sure we know exactly what kind of talent we’re dealing with. It’s normally not the case that a jam session is enough for a band to make material out of, but Yawning Balch is not a normal band by any stretch of the imagination especially given the fact that the band’s first two efforts were already made from such a circumstance. It was during last year that these members came together again to see if they could capture lightning in a bottle yet again, and it’s with all that’s delivered within the excellence of “Volume Three” that we see it done to a magnificent extent. A pair of tracks clocking in almost forty minutes in length, this is the continuation of Yawning Balch’s aimless exploration that we could have only hoped for in a return from the captivating act. The sort of sublime intoxication that one can sit down and become fully submersed within to find otherworldly bliss the likes of which only long-winded psychedelic rock can deliver in even the smallest capacity where the bounds of the horizon peels back into the universe itself where reality shifts into something else altogether. Where the rules of existence no longer apply and the warmth of the sun shines on you whilst the land shift and ebb into an unrecognizable landscape, bands like Yawning Balch stand tall and wondrous in a land that’s just as immense as their talent.

The kind of album that feels well and truly fitting for a band of this caliber and potential. Hypnotic in practically every given aspect and the glorious expansion of what they had already achieve two years ago, it’s throughout the expanse of “Volume Three” that we see the act deliver splendor the likes of which only the finest in this scene are able to bring to the table and execute in exquisite fashion. If Yawning Balch is not amongst the finest, then I know not what they are.
