It’s no secret anymore that there are certain players throughout the vast underground that never seem to sit in one place for too long. Bastions of creativity and tenacity can make even the most dogmatic of musicians reach for horizons that incredibly few others can achieve, and that proves to be the case for a select few throughout the underground that seek to cross genre boundaries time and again across multiple different acts and show us what all can be explored, discovered, and carved out by those that have the will and the talent to bring it all about. Featuring such vigorous talent, it’s within the debut from Ruinous Power that we see talent from the likes of Mitochondrion, Auroch, Reversed, and many more deliver an otherworldly experience.
Having made their talent known across many different styles from the whole spectrum of metal, it’s only natural that at some point these men would find themselves dabbling in material that feels downright all-encompassing when it comes to much of what extreme metal can become while constantly putting their own twist on things that effortlessly makes it the band’s own. Throughout the sprawling expanse that’s to be found in the seven bombastic tracks of “Extreme Danger: Prototype Weapony”, we see Ruinous Power tap into death, thrash, and black metal to make for a wild experience that’s constantly contrasting with its many different factors to enable the record to mutate itself into an embodiment of real interstellar madness. Never once treading the same sonic territory twice and always making more than enough room for experimental passages that show off the creative freedom that Ruinous Power truly embraced during the writing of the album, “Extreme Danger: Prototype Weaponry” is an absolute pearler of an album that demands to be listened to many times over in order to truly experience all that the work has to offer in its 29-minute runtime. Enrapturing as it hurls the listeners through the stars and into the darkest pits of madness that the human mind shatters upon witnessing, it hasn’t been since the last work from Progenie Terrestre Pura that I’ve experienced anything even close to what Ruinous Power brings forth here in such tantalizing form.
Fascinating in its raw power and meandering in its delivery to a wondrous extent, Ruinous Power knew precisely how to deliver at every given turn to make damn sure that this album not only stands out from the competition but continues to show us what these guys can still do after already accomplishing so much. A real ripper from top to bottom and nothing to underestimate, “Extreme Danger: Prototype Weaponry” may very well be the slab of chaos that many in the underground are constantly looking for.
