Few and far between are bands that are able to take into consideration the realms of death and folk metal, and, honestly, that’s probably for the best. It’s oftentimes the best and most interesting sounds that are sparsely populated for one reason or another, and that really helps the talent stand out whenever it does get things right. In the case of Ade, they’ve been doing things right for years now and their growing discography is proof of that. Having long established themselves as the ambassadors of ancient Rome the likes of which very few others could ever dare match, Ade continues their dominance in their fifth album.
There are just some concepts out there that work almost too well. It’s a no-brainer for metal to take on history (note a horde upon horde of names out there which is all know many of), yet it can be almost gimmicky for a band to put a real focus on a specific reach of time with your music and themes matching such focus. Out of the many that have come across my radar, Ade is hands down one of the most successful iterations of such a concept with everything that they’ve brought to the table within “Supplicium” all the proof one could need to see the growth that this act has undergone since their last outing six long years ago. Somehow increasing their own personal level of heaviness and delivering an understanding of their craft that feels truly overwhelming and efficient worthy of the Roman legions of ages ago, what Ade accomplishes here is a feat of strength not just for the band itself but the sound as a whole. Infused with enough subversive melody and loads of technicality to keep you on the edge of your seat for the entirety of these ten unyielding testaments from the old world, “Supplicium” is where ancient tradition and the modern world come together in a form that is nothing short of breathtaking. From top to bottom, this is all the proof one could need that Ade is seizing their destiny to the maximum and not just setting themselves apart from the competition, but delivering glory on a level that is simply captivating to behold for all that it can be.
To take direct inspiration from ancient Rome is not something new to many medias, but it has long been something that metal can greatly capitalize off of if a band were to simply seize the opportunity and deliver the concept with talent, finesse, and unyielding power the likes of which does the old legions justice. For years now, Ade has been doing just that with “Supplicium” all the proof one could need that the Italians have not lost so much as an ounce of their awesome might. Efficient, deadly, and no less than greatly intoxicating for all of its pulverization, it has long been the case that Ade is a name you need to know with this new offensive far from different.
