Time is the ultimate deciding factor to bands that are worthy of being called truly great. It’s an achievement to put forth a good record or even a handful, but it’s another thing entirely to continuously defy expectations as the years pack on and you become all that is synonymous with glory in your given style. They have been at it for quite some time, and Naxatras has more than earned the right to be hailed as one of the most engaging and interesting acts in the current landscape of psychedelic rock for all that it has to offer. Having accomplished much and proven doubters wrong many times over, it’s with their fifth opus that Naxatras becomes all that they were ever destined to become and somehow more.
This is one of those bands that give people whiplash whenever new material is announced because everyone rips their skulls towards the direction of Naxatras for they know quality follows this band wherever they go. It has been three years since their last outing, and it’s clear in that time they’ve not been idle as their already-delicious brand of psychedelic rock has once more shifted and transmuted itself into something that sees Naxatras explore a new realm of the dense cosmos while still undeniably feeling like a work of Naxatras that one can effortlessly become lost within. For all that “V” has to offer, boredom is simply not one of them. A transcendent journey through space that is overflowing with colors and spectacle driven by deep grooves and wells of splendor that are constantly bursting forth upon the listener such that they have no choice but to be washed over by the euphoric waters that Naxatras commands with a whim, this is the kind of record that defines a band reputation even years after being released. The very definition of what it means to be exploratory with your craft yet still somehow creating an experience that is undeniably your own without exception is something that only the finest of acts are able to achieve. Pound for pound, what Naxatras has created with “V” is that in the truest form without a shred of compromise to be had in any one of its eight tracks such that, before you know it, you’re on your tenth trip around the galaxy with “V” the only guide you could ever need for such a venture.
It was throughout much of 2024 that we saw the whole breadth of psychedelic rock given extreme justice on a magnificent scale, and it’s now in 2025 that Naxatras has come before us with what’s effortlessly the year’s biggest release of the genre so far with any bands with any to-be-announced albums having an exceedingly high bar to clear if they hope to top the overwhelming mastery of what’s been pulled off here. For all the splendor that’s to be found throughout the realms of “V”, the work is something that demands to be deeply experienced many times over if any one of us are to ever have any hope of truly understanding what’s been meticulously crafted in every millimeter of this truly monumental opus.
