There are some combinations that just make far too much sense. Whether it being bringing together different sounds for a joint offensive or two bands joining forces to demonstrate what both can bring to the table when moving as one cohesive unit, the opportunities are many so long as one has the imagination to bring it about. Having already shown off what they can do together on the live stage and in the studio, it’s here that the two monoliths of the underground that are Mizmor and Hell finally find themselves collaborating on a single piece. A harrowing effort that takes into account only the finest aspects of both massive acts, it’s here that these nihilistic times are given the soundtrack into oblivion that it deserves.
In a sound that’s as bleak, unforgiving, and overwhelming as black-doom, it only makes sense that the great sensations of oppression and off-putting salvation in such a void would be the ones to eventually become one into order to deliver a deluge of intensity that truly knows how to embody what the sound can be for all of its evocative tones, unyielding heaviness, and nasty raw aspects. Despite taking their own distinctive paths throughout the dark underground, both Mizmor and Hell have been intertwined for some time now with the arrival of “Alluvion” only further cementing their long-held titles as some of the finest that this particularly drab style has been able to boast. Only the most compelling flavors of both acts come forward to make this collaboration something that lingers on the soul and sears the flesh just from a mere touch. Competent in its dense atmospheres while never once shying away from a dirge of overbearing heaviness, “Alluvion” more than takes its time in its torment and agony the likes of which black-doom has always excelled at without so much as an inkling of light escaping this deliciously suffocating work that never once misses an opportunity to deliver excellence unbound where every listener is sure to feel nigh on enslaved by the darkness that Mizmor and Hell have long wielded in their own capacities.
It is together that the possibilities become as endless as the void itself. Without question, “Alluvion” is the work of the genre that many of us have been waiting very patiently for with it truly fitting that it would come about through two of the biggest talents the sound has known in recent memory.
