Even to just lay your eyes upon what can still be accomplished in the modern rock world is to realize that the genre is anything but dead or even close to it. There is nothing that will ever replace all of those cornerstone releases from the greats that made our childhoods the wild times that they were where the rock rolled and the hair flowed in the wind without so much as a care in the world, but to make the claim that the genre as a whole is dying and on its last legs is to be unaware of what excellence is still to be done by those whose voices have yet to be heard. Whether it’s a band that has been around for several years or one that is getting ready to make its own moves, there’s still plenty to be in awe of. With their debut album, Jesse Stilettö is absolutely amongst the latter that is more than deserving of attention.

It would be no stretch of the imagination to say that psychedelic rock and everything adjacent to its greatness as really been in a sort of renaissance in recent years for one reason or another. Every vein is having its time in the limelight with throngs of names still managing to not just come to the table with something interesting to offer but deliver material that leaves a lasting impact. Such greatness can come from anywhere at any time with Jesse Stilettö being the surprise I very much needed in my life. Seven tracks that all have a distinct identity to show us the vast repertoire of craftsmanship that Jesse Stilettö commands with impressive results, this eponymous debut is the damn good time which runs off bolds riffs fueled by the raw light of the sun and its heat that demands to be blasted out of your garage doors and from within your car with the windows down. Hard rock laced with psychedelia that is constantly ebbing and flowing to take the listener on a wild ride that’s as captivating as it is colorful, this creation is singularly intoxicating. While I have no doubt that Naxatras will be dominating the psychedelic scene for at least the next few weeks, it is when this debut drops that Jesse Stilettö more than earns its fifteen minutes for the record practically has it all. From its dreamlike melodies to its satisfying crunch, this is a name we would do well to remember.

The rise of the unknown is part of what has always made rock music such an enduring force as the decades have piled on, and that doesn’t look to be changing any time soon. While some may despair, others like Jesse Stilettö revel in the opportunity to throw their hat into the ring. Sure, there are duds out there depending on one person to the next, but it’s when we get creations like this from a band of immense promise like this that we can witness what it means for greatness to rise before our very eyes.
