There are just something that go too well together too often for them to not constantly join forces. For much of the metal spectrum, there are always a number of themes and concepts that go far too perfectly for the style at hand with time only cementing those connections to where they have now become nigh on inseparable in practically every given aspect. In the case of death-doom, we see darkness, decay, soul-rending torture, and immense woe brought to the table in ways that feel supremely intoxicating by all accounts. While it’s the bigger names that obviously get much of the attention with those concepts, the underground has long been rife with names that manage to deliver in practically every way. Within their second album, Rothadás puts forth a masterful display to showcase just that.

Greatness really can come from the most unexpected of places. Given that there is always so much happening within the underground at any given moment, it is all but effortless for a promising new name to slip right under your radar with it possibly taking years for you to finally realize what you’ve been missing out on. Before tonight, I never knew that Rothadás had even existed, and it’s now that I find myself wishing I discovered them sooner with the discovery of their forthcoming work, “Töviskert… a kísértés örök érzete… lidércharang”, the sort of menacing splendor that one can truly become lost in. Varying in tempo while always ensuring an utterly dramatic display of intensity that only lets up to allow the more overwhelming form of undeath draped in darkness to seep through and infect your very soul, these are six tracks that leave absolutely nothing to chance. “Töviskert” is singularly suffocating from beginning to end. Utterly nasty yet so undeniably captivating that one cannot help but become lost in its intensities as the abyss slowly but surely consumes you whole, what Rothadás has accomplished here is indicative of true masters in the making. A work that’s far more than a mere collection of riffs with a little bit of atmosphere, “Töviskert” stands out right from the start as a tour de force of death-doom that is not to be underestimated lest you miss out on an absolute beast of a performance.

We’ve had no shortage of death-doom delivering on the core ideals of the genre in recent times, yet there’s always room for more so long as there’s the talent needed to deliver such excellence. It’s in every possible form throughout the whole of “Töviskert” that we see Rothadás prove itself time and again as a name to be respected, and this is only the band’s second effort. The future is truly theirs for the taking with the name of Rothadás one that we would do well to remember.
