To be aware of the modern state of all things heavy is to be intimately aware of the psychedelic reaches. Where the laws of reality bend and become twisted by the very will of the musicians in question, we are lucky enough to live in a time where this corner of the underground has held massive success from names new and old, and I’ve never made any effort to deny my fascination for the many different sounds that emanate from that realm. Ever is there fresh talent to be explored should you be lucky enough to be looking in the right places. Armed with their first full-length album, Torpedo Torpedo proved I found myself at the right place at the right time when I sat down tonight.

Psychedelia is truly a wonderful thing. Much like many other sounds that are out there, it’s in the right hands that psychedelia can be effortlessly transformed and molded into something completely different than what the previous or next set of hands would be able to accomplish with it oftentimes being the case that you can go months without hearing material that touch of the same notes. As such, creativity is rampant in the sound, yet it’s where things become heavier that real magic happens nowadays. Within the eight tracks of “Arrows of Time”, Torpedo Torpedo not only embody that simple concept, but take us on a journey that is singularly intoxicating to behold. Without a shred of compromise throughout these forty-two minutes, we’re given a vast and glorious spread of what Torpedo Torpedo is already capable of. It’s a simply terrific display that offers nothing short of splendor alongside delectable power and presence amongst the grooves and tripped-out rhythms. “Arrows of Time” is constantly plunging the listener into an intergalactic vision of stoner-driven wonder that have far more to offer than a few simple riffs. Rather, it’s in every step of this work that Torpedo Torpedo captures your very soul. Taking great inspiration from much of what has already been done yet succeeding spectacularly at carving out a path for themselves in an extremely dynamic scene, it’s with a single album that Torpedo Torpedo sets itself apart from much of the competition.

It should be no surprise to us anymore that the shifting lands of heavy psychedelia have so much to offer even after years of true magnificence from masterful acts. The arrival of “Arrows of Time” stands as a testament to the power, glory, and excellence that still exist within the sound should the right act come around to tap into that latent potential. Without a shadow of a doubt, Torpedo Torpedo is the right band.
