At some point, the swirling cauldron of ingredients that bands constantly contend with during their writing processes can easily boil over if thing aren’t kept in check. It can be all too easy to try and just add more and more into your particular blend of metal in order to reach new heights and achieve new sounds the likes of which few can ever hope to really hold a candle to, but that takes an exceptional level of finesse and understanding of what’s at play on such a level that we just don’t see often by any means throughout the underground. So when a band does manage to achieve greatness with that, it’s a real feast for the senses. In every way, Tentacult did just that with their latest work.

It’s every now and then that we get an effort that just defies expectations from top to bottom. I had heard whispers of Tentacult in the past as an act that was able to bring technical death metal with a little bit of extra pizazz in their particular blend, yet what I found tonight blows such a description out of the water. To fall into the writhing madness of “Untamed Revulsion” is to come face-to-face with some nasty technical death metal, sure, but to leave describing this work at just that would be an extreme disservice to everything that was brought forth in order to deliver such a compelling work. A vast swathe of the metal spectrum itself find a place in this sprawling work. From doom to sludge to the foretold technical death metal to even a little bit of post elements for some real contrasting flavors, witnessing “Untamed Revulsion” in all that it has to offer is to gaze upon the truest definition of extreme metal without confine. Supreme in its heaviness and positively unrelenting in every possible moment such that “suffocating” is the most fitting term one could use when boiling down such a massive work, it’s no wonder that many are flocking towards what Tentacult has accomplished here.

Daring in its breadth and nigh on masterful in its execution, what Tentacult pulls off here is what some bands strive to do even decades down the line. Not so much as a single punch was pulled in the crafting of this foreboding work and it shows time after time. Tentacult has quite a future ahead of itself with “Untamed Revulsion” the most captivating launching pad into further chaos that one could ask for.
