A constant presence from a single person is something we’re slowly seeing more and more of throughout the vast underground. The sheer drive, creativity, and passion that one must have in order to achieve such a vision with consistent output is something that we just do not see often for a true menagerie of reasons. While many such anomalies are found within the darkness of black metal, it’s in death metal that we’re beginning to see names come about that offer far more than a little. Now in its fourth straight year of delivering new material, Aglo is proving to be such a rarity.
Long has it been said that quality is better than quantity, yet it is with Aglo that we’re able to have a little bit of both. While I am always ready for a new full-length from this sludge-infused creation of death metal, it is much like 2024’s “Control & Torture” that this new offering of “Fixate & Disgrace” has but a handful of tracks to call its own with one of the three a redoing of a track from one of the mastermind’s other bands with the transition working quite well. It’s in keeping things short and undeniably sweet that Aglo finds an equilibrium in the heaviest form of resistance in an interstellar battle where slow, methodically intensity is clearly the name of the game. Fueled by the unyielding riff and more than enough patience to ensure that the whole of “Fixate & Disgrace” never misses an opportunity to deliver a pummeling blow that’s as devastating as it is satisfying, it’s clear that time is only benefitting Aglo no matter what form the material comes in. It’s effective. It’s straightforward. It’s heavy. It’s damn near devious in how it delivers the final blow upon what’s soon to be a corpse floating through the unforgiving cold of space, never to be recovered by any sort of life form in the endless expanse. It’s by the light of artillery on an asteroid that Aglo’s power is to be felt in all that it can be with the fury of Aglo felt throughout the entirety of “Fixate & Disgrace”.
To enter the conclave Aglo holds dominion over is to find yourself before a great force in the universe, and that force only grows in power with each passing day. A delectable three tracks that has far more than what the uninitiated would surely expect, it’s those of us aware that know damn well Aglo is a force not to be underestimated. “Fixate & Disgrace” is the next natural step for what Aglo has been delivering up to this point with the solar systems beyond all but theirs for the taking, they need only to tighten their grip.
