We’re fortunate enough to live in a time where there really does seem to be a flavor of metal for everybody, but it’s even then that there are itches that extremely few bands are able to scratch. When they do come around, people don’t easily let such talent go, for where else are we going to experience anything that comes even close to what such a rare event can bring to the table even once? It’s even rarer then to witness such an oddity deliver excellence on a constant and consistent basis. The primal force known as Pigs Pigs Pigs Pigs Pigs Pigs Pigs has defied the odds, however, with their brand of heaviness and raw attitude something that embodies what it means to scratch an itch no others can. With their latest effort, the act has only deepened their level of depravity to a glorious extent.

Sonically, this band is a real rarity. It’s by no means uncommon to see the worlds of doom, sludge, and stoner rock come together in a single form to offer us a riff-filled performance laced with heaviness without so much as a shred of mercy to be had, yet there’s always something special about whenever Pigs Pigs Pigs Pigs Pigs Pigs Pigs (for the sake of brevity, we’ll just shorten it to Pigs for today) comes about with a new album. “Death Hilarious” is far from different. Arguably the band’s heaviest record to date, it’s throughout the whole of this creation that the listener is thrusted into an unforgiving experience that has real bounce and menace to it as Pigs sought a much more hostile sound for this album with the results simply fascinating to look upon. Each track has a real identity to call its own even outside the magnificent riffs, pummeling drums, and impactful lyrics that seek to tear at the very foundations of society. “Death Hilarious” is singularly intoxicating as you can tell that Pigs sought to challenge itself in crafting something that’s different than what they’ve delivered before, even if it isn’t by a whole lot, but it’s at the same time that you can tell they’re having a hell of a fun time in pulling it off. Pigs constantly stands tall as an act that manages to deliver heaviness that can’t be likened to many others in the vast scene that they find themselves in, and it’s even then that they manage to deliver the goods time after time to offer us a vision of what can still be done by an absolute unit of an act that knows precisely what it’s doing. “Death Hilarious” has much to call its own, and failure is certainly not one of them.

There’s so much talent to be had through this scene, and Pigs has always had a place in it with their rise to cult status more than fitting for what they’ve achieved. For all that they’ve delivered within this vast expanse of heaviness and mild psychedelia, “Death Hilarious” manages to stand out in a discography littered with standout performances. The reputation of Pigs hasn’t been a question for years now with this record only furthering their brand of excellence.
