The sheer opportunity that any band faces in the vastness of the underground in simply overwhelming. For all that has been and can still be done, there’s undoubtedly loads to be accomplished so long as the right band comes along with the right kind of vision and tenacity in order to bring such a creation to life. As such, it can sometimes feel like forever since a band makes any given sound feel genuine and interesting. Death-doom has had no shortage of names come about to keep things fresh and interesting, yet it’s with their second album that Cadaver Shrine attempts to inject real decay, madness, and filth in the genre. They succeeded.

It’s one thing to just and make your particular brand of metal intense in its heaviness along with attempting to offer some sense of nastiness that the listener can well and truly be consumed by, yet it’s another thing to bring it about in such a form that feels organic and fluid rather than stale and forced. Add into that a supreme sense of rhythm that constantly sinks its hook ever deeper into your flesh so that you are only pulled further into the maelstrom of blood and bone, and you’ve got an imposing concoction before you which just not many are able to accomplish satisfyingly. Pound for pound, everything that Cadaver Shrine dares to accomplish in order to the deepest levels of depravity of a sort that so many throughout the underground strive to tap into for even the briefest moment, yet “Into the Horrible Depths” does so to more than justify its own name. A deluge of intensity that doesn’t cease, relent, nor offer any sort of hope for salvation by those caught into a descending inferno that is nigh on bottomless, Cadaver Shrine grabs you by the throat with an iron grip that never once lets up whether it be in the form of a pulverizing riff or a dirge of of slime and grime that is just simply addictive to become lost within. It’s all left ringing in your skull as “Into the Horrible Depths” bores deep into your cerebellum without a shred of a mercy to be had in its entirety, and you’re left wondering how you went so long without it. What Cadaver Shrine offers here is what this particular corner of death-doom is made for, yet it’s only on the rare occasion that we’re able to behold it in such a form that is tantalizing to every single one of the senses.

“Into the Horrible Depths” is constantly writhing in such a grotesque form that you simply can’t help but become enamored by just by looking into its abyss. Uncompromising in its heaviness and utterly carnivorous in its nastiness, Cadaver Shrine manages to embody a side of death-doom that we rarely get to witness in such a pure form.
