You can’t keep a good band down for too long. Even if there are years of relative silence, it’s only a matter of time before talent comes back together to offer us some new form of excellence in such a way that’s a new vision of what they’ve become known for. Every style has many names in that regard to call its own and the vast spectrum of rock music is far from different. Littered with big names that have taken a back seat for one reason or another, we’re always waiting for any number of bands to make their long-awaited return. With but a single EP to keep stoner fans busy since their last record in 2017, the rising of Goya is like witnessing a magnificent phoenix with the results to match such overwhelming majesty!
While maybe not as legendary as many of the acts that we may think of when it comes to the union of sludge metal and stoner rock, Goya is one of those names that demand to be well-known for all that they’ve already accomplished with their material a magnificent blueprint for what this sound can still become when put in the hands of the passionate, focused, and talented. Goya has not be something to underestimate for a long time now, but it is with all that they’ve summoned within their fourth full-length effort, “In the Dawn of November”, that we see this act burst forth once again from the American Southwest to offer us material that can only be seen as the absolute highest of quality from top to bottom. A work littered with riffs, anthems, and spot-on heaviness that plays on the strengths that Goya has long mastered, this is an effort that is not easily shrugged off for it is nigh on intoxicating! It’s a straightforward creation that revels in its obvious mastery with the sky itself cracking open before such awesome might as “In the Dawn of November” continues to sprawl outwards to make for an effort that’s as vast in scope as it is captivating in every little detail that it offers. Elevating stoner heaviness to a high that we are only lucky enough to witness maybe a handful of times in any given year, the bar has been raised greatly if someone hopes to come around and top what Goya has ascertained.
An undeniable high point in a highly lauded discography and nothing less than utter genius, it’s ever so sweet to witness Goya deliver fresh greatness again. A simultaneous breath of fresh air and bleeding with reverence for the pillars of the genre, it’s the absolute entirety of “In the Dawn of November” that once cannot help but fall in love with for all that it has to offer being exceedingly sweet, masterfully made, and downright thrilling right from the very beginning.
