Goath – IV: Silencing the Prophets of Deceit

Long has metal been a bastion for all things menacing and oftentimes downright sinister in nature. The stigma of metal being evil is certainly sometimes true, and there absolutely are bands out there that practically thrive in occultism and the darkness that permeates their sound on such a deep level that one cannot help but feel as though demons are at play within each minute of such a creation. For almost ten years now, Goath has been a bastion of such overwhelming intensity born of hellfire. Their dark reign has been undeniable since their first effort in 2017, but it’s now with their fourth opus of darkness that it really feels as though they’ve more than earned to right to be deemed true masters of their horrific craft.

Goath has long been the embodiment of menace and homicidal intent with an approach that does the wide range of black-death metal more than enough justice for all that it could ever dare to bring to the table in such harrowing capacity, and they have yet to stray from that path even a little bit. It is almost a given that Goath was going to do no less than dominant and conquer with their fourth album, yet there’s just something about “IV: Silencing the Prophets of Deceit” that practically blows expectations out of the water. A voracious blend of what the band has always brought to the table alongside blistering speed, a singularly intoxicating approach that weaves loads of seductive melody into the mix, and craftsmanship that’s downright irresistible to be absorbed by, these eleven tracks left nothing to chance. Making damn sure that there was never any hope of a soul escaping their clutches nor so much as a shred of light to offer salvation, Goath excels in their evil machinations in every possible moment throughout these eviscerating fifty-three minutes. It’s precisely the kind of devilish intensity and monolithic violence that one could ask for with Goath with the results simply engrossing from top to bottom! Goath sticks to their guns in tremendous fashion for a resulting creation that’s murderous, blasphemous, and captivating for all that it strives to be in its magnificent brand of madness.

If there has even been the tiniest shred of doubt as to what kind of act we’re constantly dealing with in regard to Goath then it’s any one of the eleven tracks of “IV: Silencing the Prophets of Deceit” that should quash any and all doubt as to exactly what kind of power that continues to flow. At the forefront of what black-death metal has always been able to summon from the most depraved depths, Goath scratches an itch that extremely few others can ever come close to satisfying.
