F It is always extremely gratifying to witness a band rise and come into its own after laying the foundation for excellence in years past. Potential is one thing, but to witness a band following through on it and seizing their destiny is to find yourself face-to-face with what it means to be effective and damn good at what you do. When Décryptal first came around just two years ago, they joined the countless number of death metal acts seeking to gain any sort of foothold in the dense underground with their debut EP more than fitting the bill for such a task. Now, with their first full-length effort, Décryptal more than capitalizes on any and all potential they had in store.

The sheer breadth of what death metal can still become is something that will never cease to be fascinating. Even as we find ourselves treading paths that we’ve seen many, many times before with a vast array of acts achieving what they desired while others fell short, the raw potential to see a new name come around and offer excellence is an all too tempting treat that we are all too familiar with. Fortunately, it’s thanks to bands like Décryptal that we’re able to be spoiled with a constant stream of intensity that keeps things fresh and interesting to a point that one cannot help but constantly return to in order to get a damn good fix, and that rings exceptionally true with “Simulacre”. Eight unrelenting tracks that offers death metal thick, fast, and uncompromising in its brutality, Décryptal offers us a superb visage of the talent that these musicians have demonstrated elsewhere in other bands with this effort showcasing a massive step forward for the unit as a force not to be trifled with lest you become a red puddle pulverized into the earth. “Simulacre” is constantly drawing the from the well of glory that the old school of death metal still offers in heaps, yet it’s through deep atmospheres, an undeniable understanding of the craft, and loads of personality that the work quickly becomes multi-dimensional in its punishment as Décryptal avoids a fate that not many are able to come even close to escaping.

Savage and unstoppable for all that it dares to summon from a wide arsenal, Décryptal does far more than offer satisfying death metal. They set the stage for an unforgiving onslaught that we could really become consumed by when they came around with their fateful debut EP, yet it is here within “Simulacre” that Décryptal manages to blow expectations out of the water and offer us such exquisite suffering that we should be all too eager to accept.
