We are inundated with all sorts of potential across every given corner of the vast metal spectrum such that each style has something to offer in great quantities wherever you look, but only the finest are able to rise to the occasion and really show us what they’re made of. Ever since they began releasing material over ten years ago, Coltsblood has been on an undeniable rise. Climbing the ranks of the dark underground in magnificent fashion, it’s with their latest offering that one cannot help but feel as though this is arguably the band’s crowning achievement.

As long as your imagination matches your potential, there’s a nearly endless font of possible routes that one could take. Doubling down on what you’ve already become proficient in is always an option, but to truly master and understanding your craft is something that only real scholars of intensity are able to manifest in the underground, and Coltsblood has more than earned the right to be deemed as such a rare act for years now. Yet, there’s something about “Obscured into Nebulous Dark” that effortlessly stands out from its predecessors, and I cannot quite put my finger on it. From top to bottom, this record has got the magnitude, the presence, and the sheer menace that sludge-riddled doom of this variety needs with Coltsblood never once afraid to incorporate elements of other styles into the mix to allow for a vastly multi-dimensional and complex songwriting that lies underneath a thick layer that slogs onward with no remorse or regard for what it obliterates in that brutal march forward. “Obscured into Nebulous Dark” never leaves anything to chance. Not a single punch is pulled nor does Coltsblood ever fail to pursue every assault to the fullest with the results either leaving you a bloody mess or shredding your very psyche to the point that you’re left an unwilling thrall to the band’s very will. Persistent and patient, this is a creation that defines what it means to be monolithic and imposing with real depth to call its own such that the overwhelming criticality of it all effortlessly allows “Obscured into Nebulous Dark” to not just be destined as a standout work in the discography of Coltsblood but a work that is destined to define all that doom can and will accomplish in 2025 when it comes to a close.

Everything about this record demands your attention and respect. For all that Coltsblood has been building all these years, “Obscured into Nebulous Dark” is without a doubt one of their most intense creations to date with it showcasing the vast and tremendous evolution that Coltsblood has undergone in recent times to effortlessly make them one of the most compelling names in modern doom. It has been six years since we last heard from Coltsblood, and it’s obvious at every turn that they spent that time honing their craft to a vicious and deadly edge that seeks only decimation and torment through brute force.
