Lazer Throne – Tomb of the Lunar Oracle

For all intents and purposes, cosmic black metal is in a tremendous state currently. With how far the style has come since its infancy and the recent popularity that it has shared, the vast reaches of space still prove to be a constant font of inspiration for the particularly atmospheric reaches of black metal with there seemingly always at least one act that’s out and about with new material showing us how far the style can still be taken in the right hands. As one of the newer names to come around to the sound, it is already that Lazer Throne makes its mark known with all the proof being showcased in its first album.

Already, it’s been made clear that there are many different ways to offer a true cosmic experience in the world of black metal, and yet there’s still so much more to be had! All it takes is just a little bit of ingenuity and a real sense of nuance to set yourself apart from much of the competition. You could pick any one of the four tracks that Lazer Throne brings to the table throughout “Tomb of the Lunar Oracle” and I would bet all of my money that they do much more than simply impress and offer something you mildly weren’t expecting. Rather, Lazer Throne offers a masterful delivery of the style in such a way that is nigh on compelling and intoxicating to the most undeniable degree to the point where it’s no surprise many are calling it one of the years best already. Drenched in this highly decorated level of imaginative science fiction that sees the death of an interstellar monolith that always feels just beyond our reach, but it’s through the overwhelming mastery of atmospheric black metal that’s further enhanced by more than a little from the realm of synth to make the work particularly deadly without even taking into consideration that gripping songwriting and enthralling sense of melody that permeates the very DNA of the album.

This is a virtually flawless representation of what cosmic black metal can still become, and Lazer Throne’s name should be known far and wide because of it. “Tomb of the Lunar Oracle” has so much to offer should you allow yourself to become lost amongst the color, emotion, and craftsmanship that adorns every possible inch of this gorgeous and evocative creation. One listen is simply not enough for Lazer Throne covers a vast swathe of the cosmos with all the splendor and magnitude to match.
