Ukhel – Bred to Conquer

Ever are we in search of new talent wherever it may come about throughout the vast expanse of the underground. It’s the sort of thing that we can never really get enough of as new talent holds the potential for new, unheard of greatness the likes of which we can get sink our teeth into and become lost within the folding flavors. Of course, not every new name that comes across our screens are what we can hope for, but there are always exceptions. With their own debut, Ukhel stands magnificently tall and overshadows much of the competition.

Plenty of times have we seen a band grow into its own to offer us creations that can really make raise our eyebrows in interest and surprise us for all that it manages to bring to the table, but it’s every now and then that we’re given a performance that really went above and beyond with what they sought to bring to the table. In no small form, Ukhel accomplishes that in stupendous fashion with everything that they’ve brought forth within their debut, “Bred to Conquer”, more than living up to its name. One of the few works that are actually deserving of being tagged as “epic” for all that the term can be, this is a creation that knows precisely how to pummel its enemies into the finest red mist as much as it does entrance its listeners with tales of blood and gore. Far more than a simple collection of rhythms with the band in question hoping to find something along the way, it’s obvious in so many instances that “Bred to Conquer” knew what it wanted to be from the get-go: intense and nigh on addicting. Time after time, this massive effort is shown to be brimming with nuance that drives the whole record forward and then proceeding to greatly overflow thanks to the sheer intensity of its all from the riffs to the atmospheres to the impeccable songwriting to the enthralling presence that Ukhel commands with one masterful move after another. By the time it’s all said and done, Ukhel has left you thrashed, pulverized, and devilishly entranced by the magnitude of what has transpired throughout this fifty-minute work of pure evisceration.

No one is spared. No one is given quarter. No one is given so much as a shred of mercy in the face of such magnificent brutality. What Ukhel has put forth in this overwhelming slab of excellence is something that they can really grow off of and create an experience that is singular in its power and tantalizing in its potential. We’ve seen loads of debuts offer us the promise of greatness as the years have gone on, yet there’s something special about what has been accomplished throughout the many offensives that “Bred to Conquer” has to call its own.
