When we’re dealing in death metal, it’s all too often that bands find themselves firmly in a specific approach without much wiggle room to really show us what they can bring. Don’t get me wrong – there’s tons of different ways just to deliver death metal and I still find myself enamored with many, but to find a band that is able to keep things interesting and explorative within any given work feels like an intensely rare find sometimes even as death metal as a whole finds itself in a tremendously diversified state of being. When the song writing is fluid and anything is possible, that tends to be when compelling death metal is born. Pulling on its vast collective experience, Demiurgon pulls such a concept off splendidly in its third effort.

Anyone would be remiss to look upon Demiurgon and not be compelled to bring up the tons of experience that its members have attained across a ton of different acts from all over the metal spectrum, and it’s every shred of that mastery of the craft that allows them to really allow this new effort to feel organic and interesting even as you find yourself fantastically bereft of oxygen from the band’s demonic hold upon your throat. By all accounts, it’s the entirety of “Miasmatic Deathless Chamber” that stands as a powerful vacuum of intensity, complex songwriting, and a ferociously intimate understanding of the larger craft. From the beginning, it’s obvious that Demiurgon did not once shy away from their technical leanings when bringing this album together but never once do they allow it to overshadow the other aspects at play in these seven eviscerating tracks as the overall experience of Demiurgon allows for this particular brand of brutality to come across magnificently clear and efficient while nonetheless gruesome and unforgiving. Practically everything about “Miasmatic Deathless Chamber” is cranked up to a thousand from the riffs to the raw construction of each song to the very mixing of the album as a whole, and Demiurgon makes it work with every tremendous step without missing so much as a beat to ensure their third record stands tall with overwhelming force backing its every movement.

While far from the most progressive or far-reaching creation of death metal that even just this week has thrown my way, it demands to be made clear that what Demiurgon does here is more than deserving of recognition for all that it brings to the table with its technicality and finesse only amplifying the exemplary death metal that’s on display in every minute of this work. Unrelenting and downright sinister even when it pulls back for brief moments, “Miasmatic Deathless Chamber” thrashes its victims and leaves them a pulp on the ground that’s quite literally dying for more.
