It should go without saying that the current state of death metal is something to be marveled at for any number of reasons. Whether it be in the form of the raw talent that the scene now has to offer, the grand innovation that’s undergoing at practically any given time, and the overwhelming passion that permeates every given inch of the scene. We’re constantly inundated by talent rising up out of the nothingness to show us what death metal can still be even decades later. As one of the faster rising acts that the scene has to boast, Inhuman Condition stands as something to be marveled at. Versatile and wildly dimensional, it’s with their latest work that this Floridian trio continues their streak of dominance.
After already showing us what they can do across just two albums and two EPs that came out in extremely quick succession, I think it was fairly obvious what we were precisely dealing with when considering Inhuman Condition. Even if we were to ignore all that this trio has accomplished in throngs of other acts, this is the kind of death metal that one cannot simply deny for its old school vibes, riffs, and persistence that’s to be found in every shred of the songwriting itself. Inhuman Condition already delivered the goods from their impressive run from 2021 to 2023, and it’s in that time since that I’m sure the members of Inhuman Condition have kept themselves busy creatively, yet it is ever so sweet to see them return with the arrival of “Mind Trap”. Tapping into the same sonic territory that made this name a force that’s not to be denied for so much as a moment, it’s in these nine unyielding tracks that we’re able to witness how hard Florida can still be when it comes down to its death metal brass tacks with the results simply bombastic from start to finish. Straight to the point and never once missing an opportunity to deliver a devilishly clean cut to its awaiting victims, “Mind Trap” is not far from what has come before in terms of approach. Instead, this performance holds nothing back and showcases masters at their peak and working in complete tandem with their craft in devastating fashion.
A clean-cut effort that never wastes a single movement nor does it miss an opportunity to deliver undeniable death metal excellence, this is the kind of straightforward, no-holds-barred, no time wasted performance that leaves nothing to chance. When all is said and done, the only thing left with be the bloodstains on the floor and the echoing cackle of Inhuman Condition. “Mind Trap” is devastating from top to bottom and demands to be hailed as the stroke of genius that it is for all of its old school magnificence.
