We could sit here all day and talk about all that the sprawling realms of death-doom bring to the table with its heaviness, raw melancholies, and overwhelming intensity that permeates virtually every creation of the sound to such a degree that’s as captivating as it is oppressive. Yet, despite all that, there’s one thing that not many are able to bring to the table for one reason or another: color. A creation of death-doom that’s able to really tap into the latent natures of the genre and offer the listener more than a drab and dreary experience, despite how great they might be, is something that can really grab the attention of the listener. For all intents and purposes, it’s with their first album that Gloombound shows us how it’s done in stunning form.

With all the different avenues that a style such as this has carved out for itself over the decades, it was only a matter of time before the style itself become a capsule of excellence and splendor in a way that demands innovation even in the smallest forms should we hope to find ourselves going against the trends of stagnation. We’re blessed with loads and loads of talent out there in the vastness of what death-doom has to offer, yet it’s with their first offering that Gloombound instantly makes itself known as an entity that’s not to be denied in the slightest for even the smallest moments of “Dreaming Delusion” offer sights that demands to be fawned over and cowered before. A trudging experience that is somehow psychedelic in its vast heaviness and intense arsenal that holds nothing back for so much as a moment, this is the kind of debut that a band can do a lot off of. Captivating and downright enchanting in the darkest form while never leaving so much as a shred for mercy despite bathing the listener in a blindingly seductive light that’s always beckoning you forth, “Dreaming Delusion” practically has it all! From its riffs to its dense atmospheres to its suffocations to the sheer overwhelming mastery that “Dreaming Delusion” calls its own for its entirety, Gloombound is already made clear as a name to be respected as it’s with every facet of this debut that much of the competition is swiftly pushed aside with this whole creation being something that Gloombound should be extremely proud of.

This is the result of death-doom reverence combined with ingenuity and vision of such a caliber that is nigh on compelling from beginning to end. It’s already since the beginning of 2025 that both of these genres have been given an extreme level of justice that is just an absolute joy to become lost within, yet there’s something undeniably special about what Gloombound throws down for their debut. A powerful creation that’s overflowing with color, diversity, and awe on a level that feels almost transcendent, “Dreaming Delusion” is the slab of mastery that has likely passed you by, and you must rectify that mistake immediately!
