It would be a tragic understatement for anyone to say that death metal has long had a fruitful partnership with all that doom metal has to offer in return. Easily, the pairing has resulted in some of the most captivating and compelling creations of extreme metal that has ever been crafted for us to feast our senses upon with there still being so much more to uncover in those dank tombs as long as talent is able to come around and give the sound the reverence it deserves. A newcomer on the scene that offers real power and excellence is something that we can never get enough of. With their first full-length, Clairvoyance enters the conversation with one hell of an icebreaker.

Despite forming roughly six years ago and throwing down an EP three years ago, Clairvoyance still very much needed to show us what they can bring to the table lest they be steamrolled by the legions of competition that’s out there for us to continuously sift through. One may not expect much from a mere six tracks out of a band’s first effort, but I cannot help but implore you enough to realize that “Chasm of Immurement” is nothing if not exceedingly potent for what it manages to bring to the table across its 34-minute runtime. It’s throughout this gorgeously macabre effort that Clairvoyance truly makes its presence known as a death-doom entity that immediately deserves our attention for all that it delivers right out of the gate with a masterful understanding of the style that’s indicative of longtime reverence for what death-doom has accomplished many times over, and it demands to be made clear that Clairvoyance does the entire genre justice. A dynamic and organic creation that ventures through the realms of undeath and all of its macabre magnificence, “Chasm of Immurement” offers no light or salvation for anyone caught in its clutches. More than capable with its riffs, dirges, and uncompromising heaviness, Clairvoyance’s entrance is one that leaves quite the impression for all the right reasons.

We’re lucky enough to live in a time where there’s no shortage of quality death-doom out there for us to really sink our teeth into, yet there’s nothing that can compare to a new name coming around just hitting it right out of the park. From its first moments, “Chasm of Immurement” makes itself known as a beast of darkness that’s to be underestimated with the power and prowess of Clairvoyance something that we simply must keep a very close eye on for the foreseeable future lest greatness pass us by.
