The threat of an oncoming darkness is something that has permeated many corners of the underground for as long as many of us can remember. We’ve been blessed over the years with throngs of acts that are able to come out of the woodwork and hone their work in such a way that feels as captivating as it is oppressive for all that it brings to the table to deliver such a concept to the fullest. Death-doom, in particular, has long been efficient at just such overwhelming despair and madness. Even as we find ourselves inundated by long-established names furthering the excellence that the genre has to offer, the new blood under fresh names is sometimes where some of the most primal and intense creations can be born from. All throughout their debut album, Perishing delivers that in terrific fashion.

Even a brief look at the talent behind Perishing will make one realize that we’re not dealing with a group of guys that’s just fumbling in the dark hoping to come across something that they can latch onto. Rather, this a group of talent that’s already drowning in the underground with tons of glory between all of them, and it’s with Perishing they take their steps into the realm of death-doom in such a way that is nigh on compelling. For all that’s summoned from nothingness to terrifying effect, it’s the very presence of “Malicious Acropolis Unveiled” that comes for the light of the world itself with the sheer menace that this breed of metal provides nothing less than intoxicating to behold. Equally capable of a dirge of riffs that instantly blanket the sky in a thick black void that holds nothing back as well as a slow but overwhelmingly ferocious march of darkness that crawls its way forward like an indomitable machine of death, “Malicious Acropolis Unveiled” stands as a band’s foray into the worlds of death-doom with its many winding paths that can lead to many different directions. While some can become lost before such possibility, Perishing stands titanic in its victory. From the onset, you are aware of the dark persecution that’s at play throughout the whole of this sinister performance with it delivering on damn near every level even unto its imposing final notes.

The first steps of any band are exceedingly important. To take that leap into the underground is what many bands will be judged off of, and everything about what Perishing pulls off in this offering is no less than tantalizing from top to bottom and the very definition of promising! For all that was summoned from the pitch-black darkness to bring “Malicious Acropolis Unveiled” to unlife, Perishing makes it clear that they’re a force that’s not to be underestimated for so much as an instant lest you find yourself overwhelmingly pulverized by their immense might.
