Tine – A Winter Horrorscape

Growth has been a constant theme in my listening habits lately, and I have no reason to complain. To watch an act grow into something more, whatever form that may take, is a privilege the likes of which one can only bear witness to when art is allowed to proliferate and breathe unfettered, making anything possible. I’ve been lucky enough to come across many acts in recent weeks that demonstrate this concept to tremendous effect. While I never know exactly who would be the next to impress me, it was before I even sat down to listen to the forthcoming effort from Tine that I had a good feeling about the creation with the reality of the record more than satisfying to watch unfold.

From the outset, it’s important to make it clear that Tine has already been doing its own thing for many years now with no signs of slowing down in its own artistic vision. The question remains: where will Tine take its distinct mixture of death, black, and even symphonic metal? It’s a sound rarely encountered despite the innovation that litters the underground, and it’s only throughout the whole of the eight tracks that adorn “A Winter Horrorscape” that we’re able to witness the sound brought to life in terrifying detail. This is an effort that’s as personal for the mastermind behind Tine as much as it is an exploration of the themes that we’ve seen over the course of the band’s discography albeit greatly expanded upon here and unyielding in damn near every aspect. Tine offers a formidable arsenal, its power ever-growing from its strong melodic factor to the sinister rhythms that are interwoven brilliantly with the symphonies. They precisely set the mood, allow for all sorts of flavors to creep in, and enable the whole of “A Winter Horrorscape” to take on a life of its own for all of its terrors and wonders that it holds within. While never once compromising many of the core values that it has held onto for years, Tine manages to push itself forward continuously with the demonstration of power to match its efforts.

It’s always important to remember that growth is not always a straightforward path that has a clear destination. Oftentimes, it winds and bends into all sorts of directions with the destination only apparent when you’ve really come into your own. There are many great examples of this, and Tine is more than worthy of being hailed as one such name with all that’s delivered within “A Winter Horrorscape” the culmination of an act that’s been honing its sound for over ten years now. Surely, Tine still has many more horizons to explore, no matter how far it has come and all that it has already accomplished.
