In the vastness of the underground, there isn’t much that’s certain. Out of everything, however, there’s one thing that is: rising talent attracts attention for all the right reasons. We’re lucky enough to be absolutely inundated by loads of fresh talent that’s constantly coming out of the woodwork to show us what it’s capable of, but you still need to know where to look for it given the stiff competition that’s always at play. For some time now, Poland has offered us some of the finest visions in the underground, and Angrrsth has more than earned the right to be hailed as one of the country’s most compelling. Returning with their second album, Angrrsth has only raised that bar that was already immensely high upon their entrance.

It’s great to try new things. It can make the difference between a band sounding the same ad nauseum and the same act finding inspiration in other realms to create something their own while always moving forward in some form or another. Black metal can oftentimes be a very constricting sound without much wiggle room, but it can effortlessly be a genre frothing with innovation. Rarely, however, do we get met with a band that can somehow do a good bit of both; keep that old school intensity while delving into sonic territory that can push you forward through the underground. In no small way, Angrrsth has done just that to spectacular effect throughout “Złudnia”. Without missing so much as a beat throughout these seven tracks, you are constantly on the edge of your seat, never knowing what’s coming next and absolutely foaming at the mouth to discover all that “Złudnia” has to offer. Like a worm burrowing into your mind and setting a fire that’s as furious as it is infectious from the moment that first cinder is set ablaze, “Złudnia” is constantly rattling across your psyche while always tempting you further into the inferno with its winding rhythms, captivating melodies, and delectable contrast that sees the listener wretched all over the spectrum between bouts of all-consuming darkness and macabre majesty that’s simply awe-inspiring to witness. Once again, Angrrsth is a force of primeval art and insanity that’s not to be denied!

There isn’t so much as a single element about this massive record that wasn’t done to tremendous effect to the point that I’m very inclined to call Angrrsth the band that many likely don’t realize they need in their lives. Black metal that’s frenetic, organic, and downright powerful for everything that it brings to the table, whatever magic was conjured for Angrrsth’s debut album has been honed and extrapolated to make “Złudnia” not just a magnificent follow-up, but a titanic piece that stands on its own two legs with so much power of its own to show us that Angrrsth has so much to offer for any who answer their call.
