There’s not much that can compare to some well-done, straightforward death metal. It’s a sound that has stood tall against the grueling test of time for all the right reasons, and we should consider ourselves incredibly fortunate that the sound is as widely celebrated as it is today. The preservation that has gone into ensuring the original strains of old school death metal endure has led to singularly bombastic creations despite what many might take as a sad stagnation. Always, there’s a new name to be thrown around that catches the eye of any of us. The name of Glorious Depravity certainly made the rounds five years ago with its debut, but it’s with its sophomore effort that this exceedingly talented group has already grown into a formidable beast that’s not to be underestimated in the slightest.

We could sit here all day and argue about the semantics of what makes death metal truly of the old school with all sorts of different ideas, approaches, and themes brought into such a conversation, but the truth of the matter is simple: the old school is something that can be contorted into any number of grotesque forms and still accomplish today what it did decades ago. As such, legions of bands try their hand at bringing their own forms of brutality, but not many feel comprehensive and act as an undeniable, unshakeable bulwark that cannot be knocked down like what Glorious Depravity showcases throughout the nine unyielding tracks of “Death Never Sleeps”. Taking its own title very seriously, this is an abominable creation that knows not the definition of reprieve, mercy, nor spare. “Death Never Sleeps” doesn’t waste time in getting caught up with progression notions nor does it seek to be any other than terrifyingly efficient as it’s through a performance enhanced by the fiery whips of a thrash influence, Glorious Depravity ensures that anyone who comes before their power that isn’t ready is sure to be pummeled into a fine red mist. No frills nor anything other than the overwhelmingly oppressive nature that death metal is all but known for, we’re granted a vision of true murderous intent from top to bottom without there being so much as an inch of the record that allows for a moment to breathe in some foolish attempt to survive this onslaught. All of this isn’t even taking into account the vast past experience this quintet has amassed over the years with it all coming to a head in a streamlined assault that leaves nothing to chance.

You don’t need to reinvent the wheel even if you have the talent to do so. Glorious Depravity has it in spades, but it’s in virtually every given minute that it’s made clear they understand the assignment in damn near every capacity with the results of “Death Never Sleeps” constantly and consistently speaking for themselves. Should you want ferociously fast death metal that leaves nothing to chance and deadly with crystal-clear vision then you simply cannot go wrong with the second offensive from Glorious Depravity.
