As such, there are bands that are amazingly consistent in their power and continue to push themselves to greater heights. Throughout their fifth album, Orbit Culture embodies that to a glorious extreme.

Practically since they first came onto the scene twelve years ago, Orbit Culture has been on a rise that one can only consider meteoric. Their brand of death metal has seen the sound twisted, morphed, and refined in such a way that goes against more than a few of the traditional notions of what many would consider death metal, yet the raw results of Orbit Culture’s sound simply cannot be denied. Now, with the arrival of “Death Above Life”, a sort of new age has been ushered in for Orbit Culture. Damn near everything about this record feels more focused and mature than what their already-impressive previous material brought to the table, making these ten tracks that addicting deluge of adrenaline – the kind modern metal constantly strives for but rarely achieves. “Death Above Life” is overflowing with intoxicating melody and riffs that are uncompromisingly addictive in nature with the earth itself shaking beneath the might of Orbit Culture. This is death metal of a fiercely melodic nature, and embodies only the finest of what it means to be intensely modern. We’re not given some overproduced, pretentious effort that messes around or strives to achieve too much with too little actual substance. Rather, Orbit Culture delivers the goods with tenacity, power, and focus to make “Death Above Life” likely a career-defining effort that defines what it means to make death metal with a modern approach engaging, enthralling, and downright intoxicating.

This record is the next step in the natural evolution of Orbit Culture. It continues a lot of the trends that Orbit Culture has become known for over the years, somehow takes things to the next level, and executes every element with staggering precision and force that one cannot help but be overwhelmed by the magnitude of what’s before them. “Death Above Life” has true menace threaded into its very DNA with it being made clear now more than ever before that Orbit Culture still has so much to offer.
