Ripping Remains – Necrodestiny

Sometimes, you don’t need anything fancy in order to get results. Often, it’s the straightforward and the unapologetically efficient that gets you to where you need to be in such a fashion that may not be the most flavorful for some people, yet it is difficult to argue with the results when you’re face-to-face with them. Metal is no stranger to such a concept. Although, it’s not always that we get bands that are able to capitalize on it for not everyone knows how to navigate the nuances and subtleties that are inherent to any form of metal. Armed with loads of previous experience, it’s with their debut that Ripping Remains shows us how it’s done in such a fashion that’s effective if nothing else.

There is always a time and a place for taking things to the extreme and morphing a sound to fit your goals, accustomed to your vision, and offer a vessel that only you can provide. Yet, there isn’t much that can compare to a work that is stripped-down, no nonsense, and simply unforgiving from top to bottom for all that it has to offer. Death metal has long been a magnificent vessel when it comes to raw brutality that is able to embody that ideal, and it’s along the very floor of the underground that bands are still able to deliver such overwhelming power in absolute heaps. For all that’s delivered within its debut EP of “Necrodestiny”, Ripping Remains taps into that very potential. Far from the most accomplished or wide-reaching creation that death metal has ever witnessed, these five tracks waste no time in trying to be something overly grandiose or genre-defining. Rather, it’s a vehicle of maddening intensity. Viscera and gore fly before the barbaric might of Ripping Remains with the whole of “Necrodestiny” showcasing an understanding of death metal that these musicians have gathered over the years after participating in several acts between these three journeymen of the genre. This is death metal plain and simple, no frills nor fancy misgivings, and Ripping Remains does it all with extreme aptitude.

Rising from the fresh corpse of a preceding act now laid to rest, Ripping Remains offers us a new visage of death metal that feels almost exhaustingly familiar. However, it’s in knowing precisely what they’re doing along every step of the way and never once compromising for a damn thing that “Necrodestiny” serves as a platform for great acts of violence to come in the future. We find ourselves before a magnificent tomb with such sights to be had should the gates deeper within simply opened when given time.
