Whereas many look to the largely unexplored reaches of the underground to find new talent delivering fresh experiences, it can oftentimes be from the well-known founts of quality that we can keep returning to in the search of finding something new. For all intents and purposes, the group of affiliated acts out of Zürich, Switzerland known as Jünger Tumilon has remained a constant source of amorphous magnificence with its wide variety of names under its umbrella as impressive as they are incredibly dynamic. It was already with Arkhaaik’s latest work that the committee had much to boast as far as 2025 had to say, but it’s now with the debut from Arrows that the coalition now has another undeniable victory to claim for itself.
When we’re dealing with an act whose potential is obvious from the raw experience that’s been accrued by its members, it’s almost a safe bet to assume that anything is on the table. With Arrows being a completely new name, truly anything felt possible given the vast breadth of capability that these musicians have boasted for years now, and yet it’s with practically every given moment of all that’s delivered throughout “Yearning Arrows; Cloven Suns” that we see yet another fresh vision that’s as captivating as it is intensely fluid in its aural offensives. I’ve seen plenty of people tag this creation as experimental black metal, and that certainly is a large part of all that’s pulled off in these four tracks, but Arrows cannot be pinned down so easily. Practically seeking out fresh sonic territory where they can really stretch their legs and avoid easily classification in virtually every form, it’s here that we’re given a brilliant display of power, imagination, and creative splendor the likes of which we’re constantly salivating for yet seldom witness. Arrows taps into something special, something primal. “Yearning Arrows; Cloven Suns” spreads its tendrils out in many directions, seizing greatness, wonder, and presence in damn near every given instance of it latching onto something in the murkiness which this band thrives within.
This eclectic and exceedingly talent act strove to make something that was certifiably unique and all their own in a way that it stands apart from practically all of the competition that’s out there, and I feel it’s safe to say they achieved that in such a fashion that’s no less than intoxicating. The sheer magnitude of “Yearning Arrows; Cloven Suns” is nothing to deny for all that it is. The future of Arrows is surely something that we are going to want to be a part of. To miss out on it is likely to miss out on greatness.
