Buzzard – Everything is Not Going to be Alright

There are some acts that you just can’t keep down for long. It’s the normal expectations that it takes at least a year or two for a band to come back around with new material, but it’s every now and then that we get a name that refuses to stay silent for more than a few months at a time for one reason or another. Sometimes, it’s the circumstances of the world itself that can push a band to action. It hasn’t even been seven months since their universally acclaimed album earlier this year, but the dire stake of the world itself has forced Buzzard to move in a way that only they can do in such magnificent fashion.

It can be a difficult thing to have such little time between releases as there’s always the chance that you haven’t allowed things to bake properly before taking it all out of the oven and then purporting it all to be good enough for consumption. Such is a pitfall that far too many ambitious names succumb to with loads of unfortunate creations floating around out there that could have absolutely benefitted from a little bit of time and care. That being said, Buzzard more than adeptly dodged such a pitfall throughout the crafting of “Everything is Not Going to be Alright” with the results a resounding call to action. Diving headfirst into their political leanings and making no secret of their beliefs in the current hyper-political landscape that our society finds itself in, this is an EP with a clear message that’s obvious in the first track with the remainder of the effort something that Buzzard is evidently proud of. Whereas many tiptoe around their political beliefs when dealing with their musical craft, it’s almost refreshing to see a band take a stand, offer listeners a showcase of just how integrated the band’s style is with their very mindset, and have it all come out surprisingly well. There’s always a pitch-black cloud swirling around this performance as Buzzard becomes intimate with just a few of the deep problems plaguing the American mentality, but it’s all performed with such fluidity and passion that one cannot help but be swept up by the glory that these seven tracks boast in heaps.

Whether we want to admit it or not, politics certainly has its place in music and especially in the underground. There are those that use such tactics for a cheap angle to preach from their soapbox, but it’s on a rare occasion that we’re able to witness a band bring it all to the table in a way that feels like a natural extension of themselves and their craft. For all that’s summoned throughout “Everything is Not Going to be Alright”, Buzzard’s personal growth is as obvious as it is captivating in all of its justified rage.
