It probably goes without saying that there’s loads of debauchery, blasphemy, and all other sorts of nastiness that goes on throughout the varies sounds that thrive on the very floor of the metal underworld. We’ve been subjected to loads of glorious torture over the decades with every breed and ilk of band that has come around to offer us a visceral glimpse into their demented sound in such a way that can be just as punishing as it can be rewarding.
For some, it’s a delicate balance. For others, it’s the perfect opportunity to let loose a no-holds-barred approach to raw ferocity the likes of which few can ever truly capitalize on. Only every now and then do we get a performance that really knows what it’s doing, fueled by talent that’s as unyielding as it is precise in its overarching menace. Here, we’re fortunate to have a double dose of the nasty.
To be familiar with either Barbaric Horde or Goatsmegma is to truly be in the thick of it. In the midst of only the blackest, most horrific and petrifying depths of the underground is where you can find names like these two, yet it’s even then that we rarely get a treat quite like we do with the thrashing brutality that’s brought forth in this unforgiving split. For the absolute entirety of this reviling piece, we’re given an overwhelming display of dominance that employs the service of compelling hooks and rhythms, fury bridled, and a clear understanding for the craft that can very well be easily lost underneath all the raw immensity that’s constantly being thrusted upon the listener. Both of these acts have something to call their own while ensuring that the core values of their particular style is enshrined throughout every excruciating minute of “Impurity Manifesto”, guaranteeing that this joint performance more than lives up to its own name. Simple and straightforward but undeniably effective from beginning to end, “Impurity Manifesto” delivers on any and every promise that each name could have ever sought to bring to the table.
Violence uninhibited and black-death metal of a truly vile sort that is downright diabolical out of the gate, it’s been too long since we’ve been subjected to such an unyielding joint effort like what we’ve been treated to here. Individually, Barbaric Horde and Goatsmegma are rising entities in the underground that are more than worthy of being watched very closely, yet it is together that they are a tour de force the likes of which one can typically only find at a live show in some club in some country where only a few people can ever hope to show up to. “Impurity Manifesto” is a culmination of this corner of the underground in a single package with all the menace, grit, and raw authenticity that many crave.
