As it is the final frontier, space is something that modern heaviness has long drawn inspiration from. But, for every band out there that showcases grand exploration through tremendous talent, there are tens of names out there that just simply don’t measure up to the massive potential such a backdrop can offer. For some, however, it seems to come almost naturally with time offering listeners an evolving act that knows how to grow and satisfy in a way that’s compelling to come before. Over the course of the last seven years, Chaos Over Cosmos has been honing its craft to offer us such an experience with its first effort in three years giving us a much needed new chapter to the band’s excursions beyond the stars.

Growth is something that many strive for in some form or another, but, like many things, it can be quite difficult to attain if you don’t put in the time and sweat and passion in order to bring it all to life in such a way that feels both organic and interesting to the listener. Stagnation can easily come to any name that isn’t taking their due diligence. Having only gone up in their time, it’s with their fourth album, “The Hypercosmic Paradox”, that the international interstellar entity of Chaos Over Cosmos returns to us in a truly kaleidoscopic form. Furthering their brand of simply unrelenting progressive metal that adeptly swims in the waters of death metal, these five tracks are simply electrifying to become lost within. A constant barrage of intensity that embodies what it means to shred and eviscerate in equal measure, we’re given a performance here that encapsulates the volatility of life between the stars while always making room for a sense of wonder and contemplation before such a dazzling display of power. Chaos Over Cosmos had nothing to prove in the crafting of this effort with time absolutely being on the band’s side, yet that never once stopped them from allowing “The Hypercosmic Paradox” to become the best that it can possibly be for all of the supernovas and blasting starships that are to be found throughout this creation.

After taking the longest gap in releasing new material since the band had begun releasing material, it’s with “The Hypercosmic Paradox” that I’m very pleased to see Chaos Over Cosmos return to us. While not at all at the top of the food chain when it comes to this particular corner of progressive metal, it demands to be made exceedingly clear that this band has got superbly sharp teeth and all the ferocity one could ask for. Having tapped into their immemse potential yet again, “The Hypercosmic Paradox” is the blistering burst of quantum madness that we never get enough of.
