Hands down, one of the best things about psychedelia is how amorphous it all is. Changing forms greatly as we venture from one band to the next, there’s nothing  that can tamp down some well-channeled psychedelia in such a way that embodies both what the band is capable of as well as what the sound can still become when it’s put into the proper hands that can really capitalize off such overwhelming potential. Even in the hands of veterans, insurmountable possibilities can be too difficult to overcome. Yet, sometimes it takes a little bit of new blood to show us how it’s done. With what’s only their second album since their entry four years, Abanamat poises itself as a name that demands respect.

We’re given an absolute deluge of magnificence when it comes to all things in the folding realms of psychedelic music with so much talent to become lost within at virtually any given time. Whether it’s long-established names or rising acts hoping to bring forth memorable experiences, it cannot be overstated just how much this particular sound still has to offer those that are willing to explore untapped territories and come back with experiences that are singularly captivating. It was already with their last effort that Abanamat made waves, but it is here with everything that’s brought to the table throughout “Abominat” that the sound is simply intoxicating. Throughout every one of these seven tracks, you can tell Abanamat is having a hell of a good time throwing down these riffs, solos, and cascading rhythms that do far more than open the mind’s eye. Rather, it’s the whole of “Abominat” that entrances and trasmutes the very concept of psychedelia to the very will and whim of Abanamat. One cannot help but become washed away in a glorious flood the lies of which is irresistible when it comes to the raw power and carefully crafted hypnotism that’s pulled off masterfully time after time.

It’s no surprise to already see a number of listeners calling this one of the premier psychedelic experiences that the year has given us, and I am inclined to agree with such an opinion. My words can barely hope to do justice for craftsmanship such as this, so I beg of you to investigate what Abanamat has delivered throughout “Abominat” in order to observe psychedelia unfurled, unbounded, and unburdened by the confines of this restrictive reality.
