It ought to go without saying that black metal has no shortage of names out there looking to make their impact known in some form or another. Too often do we see bands come up to the plate and offer very little in the way of offering something new or invigorating in virtually every form. Yet, should you find yourself in the right place at the right time, your eyes can be ripped open to a magnificent display of power the likes of which black metal is constantly salivating for. When such talent does come before you, it’s quite a feast for the senses. Despite last year’s outing setting the bar high, it’s with this brief EP that Königreichssaal offers us so much more than mere continuation.

If it’s already difficult enough to craft a unique experience that’s as captivating as it is daring for all that it brings to the table, then it is surely a much more demanding task to try and follow-up such a creation. When the standards are set high practically out of the gate with time something that does not always guarantee greatness, it’s understandable if a band isn’t able to measure up and deliver. Königreichssaal has already made itself known as a ferocious entity that’s not to be taken lightly, but are they capable of proceeding with their momentum from last year? The four tracks of “Loewen II” are more than enough quash any and all doubters beneath a vessel of blackened intensity the likes of which cannot be denied. Each offering in this EP has an exceedingly distinct identity, songwriting, and execution that ensures the creation is a cohesive but massively organic work that revels in its own creativity. Making damn sure in every turn that their offensives are as engrossing in magnificence as they are unrelenting in their raw aura, Königreichssaal is no less than massive throughout a runtime that offers no time for any mistakes of any sort whatsoever. Ferocious and monolithic yet still capable of vulnerability and deep sorrow; “Loewen II” is nothing if not an EP that defies expectations.

While this may just be another step in the band’s overall evolution, there’s little that can disprove the overwhelming splendor of a dark sort that’s taken to a tremendous extent in each minute. “Loewen II” may not have much on its surface, but it would behoove any of us to take the plunge. Venture into a writhing realm where darkness reigns supreme but the flickering light from above still plays a vital role. Where many would seek something that only begins to channel something so seductively sinister, Königreichssaal takes it to a glorious albeit unforgiving artform the underground is rarely subjected to.
