A band’s progression and evolution are oftentimes the driving force of what keeps bands interesting in the first place. It’s all well and good to offer an impressive display of power in one form or another, but it’s another achievement for a completely different sort to constantly advance your craft to eventually offer a performance that was born out of blood, sweat, and perseverance of a truly undeniable sort. In order to find such an act that pushes itself to such a degree, one need only to comb through the underground. As a rising name that has made quite a reputation for doing just that and so much more, it’s with its forthcoming effort that Fossilization pushes itself even further.
It goes without saying that there are many names lurking in the cobweb-riddled darkness of the modern landscape that death-doom metal boasts, yet it’s as time goes on that those who are exceptional become quite apparent. If you’re one of the unfortunate few that have not come before the overwhelming might of Fossilization, then it is with the arrival of “Advent of Wounds” that I implore you to rectify that. Taking notes from its on-stage presence since the release of its last album only a little over two years ago, it’s apparent in practically every given track that Fossilization sought to take its craft to the next level in virtually every form. When it comes to heaviness, darkness, intensity, and overall mastery over truly nasty death-doom that’s as uncompromising and alluring as only the finest works of the genre can be likened to, “Advent of Wounds” stands undeniably tall! Pulling from previous experience in other bands but also ensuring the identity of Fossilization itself remains strong and true, this duo has almost certainly outdone itself here. Across seven uncompromising tracks, we see brutality and macabre majesty given a singularly visceral form that is nigh on captivating and simply impossible to turn away from.
A true embodiment of some of the finest aspects of death-doom, Fossilization absolutely dominates with “Advent of Wounds”. Whatever it was that helped push Fossilization towards where it is now, it’s obvious that the name has undergone a magnificent metamorphosis. Death-doom of an irrefutable sort that is unyielding from top to bottom, now more than ever before is Fossilization a name that demands our respect.
