Every now and then, the underground offers us nothing short of absolute magnificence. Almost every genre has plenty to boast every so often as an absolute stroke of brilliance that capitalizes on so much of what a sound has to offer, and it’s in recent years that death-doom has seen a particularly fascinating strain of spectacular performances. Already, 2026 has been spoiled with a few names putting forth wonderful performances that tap into what the genre has to offer. Yet, all pale in comparison before what Malignant Aura brings to the table in its second full-length album.

It is awfully early in the year to make claims as to what’s destined to be one of the year’s finest in any form, but every now and then there’s an exception the likes of which we simply must pay heed to. Usually, it takes some time before we can come across a body of work that fires on all cylinders, delivers on all potential, and never compromises. In no small form, that’s precisely what Malignant Aura offers with this new testament of undeath, “Where All of Worth Comes to Wither”, and it’s every moment of this record that oozes magnificent nastiness and atmosphere the likes of which only the finest of caustic death-doom can ever hope to bring to the table. Sprawling in their capacity and the embodiment of what it means to offer up death-doom of a truly grimy sort, the five tracks here that cover well over forty minutes in length are downright fascinating to become lost within as Malignant Aura shows us they can do so much more than give us some slow tempos and half-decent atmosphere. Rather, “Where All of Worth Comes to Wither” more than lives up to its name. This work is as epic as it is intoxicating to become lost within. It’s an absolute ripper from beginning to end. something that demands your full attention and commands its in virtually every moment.

Malignant Aura’s power has been laid bare ever since their fateful debut, yet it is with the whole of this effort that they’ve begun to truly seize their destiny. It’s too damn early in the year to make claims as to whether or not this record would make that much of an impact. Yet, for all that it dares to bring to the table and pulls off in extraordinary magnitude, it’s the whole of “Where All of Worth Comes to Wither” that is more than worthy of being remembered when it comes time once again to take the year in review.
