Apolaustic – No Plentitude Without Suffering

At what point can an end become a new beginning? That’s a question which has plagued many across the ages as we seek continuation as the cyclical nature of life ventures ever onward without a care in the world for our processes, growth, or desires as the years pile on. Even in the deep underground of metal, a new beginning is something that many strive for with incredibly few able to achieve it for any number of reasons. Those that do overcome make themselves known as names that demand to be respected. With its debut effort, Apolaustic more than earns the right to be hailed as a new beginning of sorts.

Everyone moves on differently in their own ways. While there are plenty of ways to continue on after leaving a longtime band, there answer can be almost too obvious for those that dare to challenge and push themselves to follow their creative drive to places that only a passionate fever can bring about. It wasn’t even a full year ago that the founding vocalist of Stortregn left the act to pursue something new, and it has taken the magnificent form of Apolaustic. Immediately, the potential for this act is high given the talent behind it, yet there was no telling what was to be brought forth. For everything that it is, “No Plentitude Without Suffering” is nothing if not a staggering work of creativity and a tremendously dynamic taste of what this band is already capable of. Deliciously melodic despite the eviscerating brand of black-death metal that’s as unyielding and amorphous as the cosmos itself, it’s across these eight tracks that Apolaustic accomplishes a dazzling and intoxicating blend that knows not just how to grab you right the throat, but command your attention. Evocative in its themes but nonetheless brutal in its execution without missing so much as a beat when it comes to what Apolaustic offers its listeners in any aspect of its sprawling songwriting, this is a debut that carries more than enough weight and magnitude to keep us coming back for more every single time.

“No Plentitude Without Suffering” is a staggering work of the genre. What we have here is a piece that already showcases all the hallmarks and notes of greatness where many others can only ever hope to touch upon in their own debuts. There’s already loads of talent to be had behind the very name of Apolaustic, but not once should that be made to write-off this album as an obvious win. Rather, through diligence and determination in the pursuit of an artistic vision, this is the embodiment of seeing it all through to great effect.
