Whoever made the foolish claim that death metal has lost its power? Sure, there are moments that see the genre at a low point, but to judge the whole of the style for faltering for hardly any time whatsoever is to ignore the raw menace that is still be had when you’ve the right hands crafting the madness. When the right people come to the plate with the right tools and attitude, death metal can still absolutely be a beast that’s not to be underestimated. With their third album in three years, Putred showcases all of that in stupendous fashion.

A brief scan of Putred’s run up to now will make it obvious what sort of madness we’re dealing with. Their streak since their arrival in the underground in the insanity of 2020 is simply undeniable with their constant offensive something that many bands throughout the many different realms of the underground has sought to achieve, but to pull it all off requires quite a bit. Finesse, consistency, and more than a little talent are needed in order to not come across as dull or half-baked, and Putred is anything but. From the moment “Blestemul din Adânc” plunges its daggers into your flesh, you are Putred’s thrall with there being no hope in escaping their wicked grasp across these ten unyielding tracks. Only fourteen months since their last full-length outing, it’s clear here that Putred hasn’t lost a single iota of the engrossing power with it obvious they struck while the iron was hot to great effect. Overflowing with riffs and more than enough of that trademark underground nastiness that’s more than enough to draw in fans of the old school while always making room for their own flavors to make the final cut, Putred’s personal brand of undeath is as captivating and voracious as it is true to the very ideals of the genre itself.

It’s not a work that sought to reinvent the ways of death metal, but, rather, revel in what the sound has always been known for with every lurching step of “Blestemul din Adânc” a love letter to the horrors that came before with many more very soon on the horizon should Putred have anything to say about it. Death metal straightforward and all the more magnificent for what it brings to the table and executes in deliciously diabolical fashion, this is the perfect embodiment of what the genre can still be with Putred’s hands certainly the right ones.
