Hemelbestormer – Aether

February 19, 2016August 10, 2018 Vinterd

There’s this rare oddity among metal known as atmospheric doom metal, and for me the only band that fits that description is Secrets of the Sky. Now that they’re no longer together, I’ve been meaning to find another band that … Continue reading Hemelbestormer – Aether

Stabbed – Submerge

February 11, 2016November 16, 2016 Vinterd

The idea of post metal is really a huge thought for me because I always imagine bands using so much technology and shit to create these other worldly sensations. Bands like Minsk truly transport you to those lonely corners of … Continue reading Stabbed – Submerge

Wheelfall – Glasrew Point

December 13, 2015November 16, 2016 Vinterd

There has never really been a whole lot of post metal that has blown me away in my time as a metal head with the only real post experience I can recall from this year is Minsk’s “The Crash and the Draw”. … Continue reading Wheelfall – Glasrew Point

Grip – Wolves/Fawn

November 12, 2015November 24, 2015 Vinterd

It’s always cool to see that some band somewhere is trying to do their best at creating something that others have done before, but in their own unique way and for Grip that’s creating a post-hardcore sound that is interesting … Continue reading Grip – Wolves/Fawn

Earthside – A Dream in Static

November 4, 2015November 24, 2015 Vinterd

I’m not familiar enough with post rock as a genre to say that I know the ins and outs of it (by far), but I’ve heard enough to say that I’ve got a pretty good grasp on the basic sound … Continue reading Earthside – A Dream in Static

Glasir – Unborn

October 29, 2015August 10, 2018 Vinterd

Post metal and post rock have always interested me because you can do so much with post that can truly take you somewhere else with a unique set of sound effects mixed in with the normal band set up that … Continue reading Glasir – Unborn

Kauan – Sorni Nai

October 21, 2015November 24, 2015 Vinterd

This is the completely true and tragic story of how in 1959 a group of nine Soviets traversed into the Ural Mountains in order to reach the peak of Mt. Ortorten. In the harsh cold of -30 degrees Celsius their … Continue reading Kauan – Sorni Nai

Sisters Of… – The Serpent, the Angel, and the Adversary

May 17, 2015May 18, 2015 Vinterd

An instrumental album is one thing. An instrumental post metal album is something else entirely. Sisters Of… have created an awesome album with their post metal that brings a whole new meaning to the word “atmospheric” with all 8 tracks having very well done riffs and sounds to them that only a post metal band could do, but Sisters Of… have taken that and increased the awesomeness ten fold and thensome! The album does start out a little slow but then the remainder of the album is great to say in the least as you are taken on a journey … Continue reading Sisters Of… – The Serpent, the Angel, and the Adversary

A Secret Revealed – The Bleakness

April 9, 2015 Vinterd

Post metal has always greatly interested me with its great variety of sounds and tones that can happen in just one album and even one song. “The Bleakness” from A Secret Revealed is a great post metal album in every way and the first track show how true that is because the opening track goes from metal to calm in a second. I personally thought that the vocals where trying just a little bit too hard, but overall they were good and suited the album very well along with the guitars and drums which had a great sound for the … Continue reading A Secret Revealed – The Bleakness

Minsk – The Crash and the Draw

March 24, 2015April 9, 2015 Vinterd

Typically when a popular band comes back from an lengthy hiatus there is much anticipation about the album that they’ll put out whenever they return. For lack of a better example, the best example of this in recent years is Slipknot’s “.5: The Gray Chapter”. If post/progressive metal band Minsk hasn’t made a masterpiece yet than they have with their upcoming “The Crash and the Draw” because this album is everything you could ever want and more. Right from the very beginning it has a great feel to it that’s very much like doom metal but it’s different in a … Continue reading Minsk – The Crash and the Draw
