Solitary Sabred – Redemption Through Force

I’m gonna say two band names and you’re going to have an image for each. Manowar, and HammerFall. Got the images? Now, image smashing those two together and throw in a theme of medieval times and you’ve gotten yourself Solitary Sabred’s upcoming sophomore album “Redemption Through Force”. This Cypriot (they’re from Cyprus) band does an amazing job of going back to the time during the 80s when metal was at its best, and Solitary Sabred chose to draw from the power metal from that era and have that influence their music which turned out to sound like something that came … Continue reading Solitary Sabred – Redemption Through Force

Naslow (self-titled)

Melodic metalcore is filled to the brim with good artists that utilize screaming vocals and softer vocals to their full potential, and Naslow doesn’t disappoint. With songs long enough to satisfy people that like their stuff over 5 minutes, Naslow’s debut self-titled EP is a lengthy and interesting piece of work that should be enough to satisfy just about any metalcore lover. Hell, it worked really well for me. The vocals had excellent sound, the guitar were great, and the drums had a killer beat the entire time. If this is what Naslow can pull off with an EP, then … Continue reading Naslow (self-titled)

Abated Mass of Flesh – The Omen King

As you can probably tell from the cover art, Abated Mass of Flesh’s new album “The Omen King” is one brutal piece of work. The album is one of those that takes death metal and takes it to the most extreme ends of the genre. Everything about “The Omen King” is hardcore and fast to the point where it astounded me that everybody in the band was able to keep up with one another because it sounded like everyone was on something to make them play so fast. The flow between each song is also seamless which is great but … Continue reading Abated Mass of Flesh – The Omen King

Letheria – III Mockery

Finland! That name alone should carry some weight among the metal community. I can say with confidence that there is at least one band that originated from Finland that has mastered at least one of the many metal genres. While Letheria isn’t one of those masters, they are close in my opinion. But they have managed to make an excellent album that combines black, death, and thrash metal into one great piece of brutal work that isn’t one to be taken lightly. “III Mockery” is an album that has all the great aspects of those three genres and they all … Continue reading Letheria – III Mockery

Affiance – Blackout

I’ve never heard of Affiance or either of their first two albums, but “Blackout” absolutely blows it out of the water for me. The album is very catchy but it avoids having a poppy sound to it that sometimes doesn’t mix well with metal and can screw it up for many people but that is not the case here. Affiance manages to avoid that and still making “Blackout” one great piece of melodic metal that I’ve no doubt many people will enjoy. The album doesn’t rely so much on hardcore vocals than it does on guitars that have amazing sound … Continue reading Affiance – Blackout

The Vicious Head Society – Abject Tomorrow (single)

As Vicious Head Society’s single from (what I’ve gathered) their debut album that is coming sometime early 2015 so we got some time to imagine what it’ll be like. The album’s name hasn’t even been announced yet so all we have is this single, “Abject Tomorrow”, to guess at what it’ll be like. And right now it’s looking to be pretty damn good. The single itself is over 8 minutes long so maybe this’ll be an album for those of you who can’t get enough of the really long songs. “Abject Tomorrow” also has a certain smooth sound to it … Continue reading The Vicious Head Society – Abject Tomorrow (single)

Brotherhood – Till Death. . .

Whoever says southern metal, grunge metal, or anything of the sort isn’t could can go shut the hell up now. This reissue of Brotherhood’s “Till Death. . .” is the greatest of that kind of music because it really does sound like a band of rebels that made a band and started playing in the damn garage. The whole album has a real grungy sound to it much like how Leatherneck does with their music by giving it a real edgy and even sandpapery (that’s a word now) feel to it that persists through the entire album and that’s what … Continue reading Brotherhood – Till Death. . .

Myrkur (self-titled)

This is probably, by far, the best one-man band I’ve ever heard. Except in this case this is a one-woman band. Yes indeed, Myrkur is a band consisting of only a single woman and a very talented one at that. “Myrkur” contains many elements of black metal and yet very atmospheric sounds that really help give the songs a very serene feel to them until the metal comes along and tears it up like all good black metal musicians do. There aren’t any conventional vocals either. By “conventional” I mean that there are vocals, but not lyrics, and what I’m … Continue reading Myrkur (self-titled)

Old Wounds – Death Projection EP

As you can probably tell from that cover, this is one raw piece of work. Old Wounds’ new EP “Death Projection” is just that as it brings something new to the table for Old Wounds as the drummer, Brandon Gallagher, tells Alternative Press, “‘We wrote this EP in January and February between our tours with Raindance and our full US with Hollow Earth,” says Gallagher. “It’s definitely more metal influenced then any of our other material, and we all think it’s our best. Consider it as a teaser of the direction we’re going to be headed for the next LP.’” … Continue reading Old Wounds – Death Projection EP

Gust (self titled)

I never want to hear the words “Sweden doesn’t make good metal” because that is bullshit on a scale of unimaginable proportions. Amon Amarth is one great example, and now another has come upon my radar. Gust’s self titled album, while short, has all-round amazing tracks that are hardcore and are the embodiment of the heavier of metal today if I to choose a band that isn’t well known. And that’s sad because Gust is one of those bands that deserves to be more well known along with other amazing bands like A Breach of Silence, Hate Division, and Gentrification (all of … Continue reading Gust (self titled)
