Prayed and Betrayed – The Abundance of a Sickened Mind

It’s always nice to know when bands try something different, and it’s even better to know that said band pulled it off exceedingly well. And that is apparently what Prayed and Betrayed has done with their new EP “The Abundance of a Sickened Mind” that has (according to the email they sent me) a style that “has changed from the traditional death metal to a more technical and melodic heading” which is fine by me in any case I like death and melodic metal so this band can’t really go wrong for me. The band managed to pull off this transition … Continue reading Prayed and Betrayed – The Abundance of a Sickened Mind

At Fault – Terminal

Okay. . . I’ll say it now. . . I really like that cover. Not sure why, but I do. Felt like I should say that. Anyway, “Terminal” started off really slow for me with the opening track, “Hollowed”, not being as engaging as I thought it would be. But the rest of “Terminal” was much more engaging. The vocals had a nice screaming tone to them that really assaulted the ear drums and never let up the whole time which kept the brutality of “Terminal” ongoing without letting up once. The guitars have an absolutely vicious rhythm the entire time and … Continue reading At Fault – Terminal

Ominous (band)

From what I could find, Ominous doesn’t have any form out in the form of an album until the 30th of this month (for Americans at least). But Ominous did inform me about a music player on Facebook that takes their songs from reverbnation.com and allows them to be played on Facebook. Which is fine by me in any case as long as I’m able to actually hear the music. Since Ominous doesn’t have an official album out yet, I’ll just talk about their 5 songs that are available. And in all honesty I cannot place whether Ominous is sludge … Continue reading Ominous (band)

Sisyphean Conscience – Claptrap (single)

Apparently this is a Borderlands reference. Never played the Borderlands series but I know enough about it to know who/what Claptrap is and that made me skeptical about this single from Sisyphean Conscience’s upcoming debut album “Malignant Transformation”. For those of you who do know of Claptrap you might understand my skepticism for making a metal song as a reference to him, but this worked out well somehow. I’ll be honest, I never heard anything about Claptrap or Borderlands 1 or 2 in the entire song but maybe that’s because I wasn’t paying enough attention. But besides that one little oversight, the … Continue reading Sisyphean Conscience – Claptrap (single)

Leatherneck – Medusa

I know the word “Medusa” isn’t on that cover, but trust me. . . that’s the right one. Best one I could find that didn’t look so blocky that it looked like a blind 2-year old with ADHD drew it. Anyway. . . I remember Leatherneck’s previous EP “Dust & Memories” and still listen to it to this day. So when I was messaged on Twitter by whoever manages the band’s account about “Medusa” I was pretty excited. And I was rightfully rewarded for my hopes. Leatherneck hasn’t lost their touch at all it seems. The album contains the same gritty … Continue reading Leatherneck – Medusa

RetConStruct – Denizens of the Depths

I’ve never really like symphonic metal. Never really appealed to me. RetConStruct’s “Denizens of the Depths” was okay in my opinion, which is better than literally 90% of any symphonic metal I’ve listened to so these guys got the better end of the deal. Everything about this album was alright to me, nothing was amazing but nothing was bad either. The vocals had a nice sound to them being smooth flowing and have a good tone throughout the entire album. The guitars had an alright rhythm in each track and had a tone that went well with the lyrics that … Continue reading RetConStruct – Denizens of the Depths

King Of Asgard – Karg

I’ll be honest, I’ve never really liked King Of Asgard. I like viking and folk metal (whichever these guys are) to an extent; Amon Amarth and Ensiferum on a regular basis if you want examples. King OF Asgard was always something that I didn’t listen to but it’s always been under the “Maybe” category for bands I might want to listen to in the future. I saw that they released “Karg” and it went from “Maybe” to “Why Not”. Based upon what I heard of the band before hearing this album, I feared that I wouldn’t like this because it … Continue reading King Of Asgard – Karg

Within The Ruins – Phenomena

Sometimes when metal bands fuse their music with techno. . . it can have different outcomes. A good example would be Korn’s “Path of Totality” which wasn’t exactly good in many peoples’ eyes (including mine) except for maybe one or two tracks (for me those were “Narcissistic Cannibal” and “Get Up!”). And sometimes it comes out really good (can’t give you an honest example because I don’t really listen to this mix much). Other times it meets me right in the middle like “Phenomena” by Within The Ruins did for me. I didn’t hate the combo, but I did particularly … Continue reading Within The Ruins – Phenomena

Judas Priest – Redeemer of Souls

I’ve no idea why I wasn’t told about this sooner. I was looking at recently released albums and I saw this and screamed “What the fuck?! How did I not know?!” Repeatedly saying “dammit” I went and listened to “Redeemer of Souls”. And I’m even more mad no one told me because this album was really good. It really has that Judas Priest sound to it and it started off really strong, but ended in a way that I wouldn’t call weak but it wasn’t as strong as the beginning. The vocals have the iconic sound to them and they … Continue reading Judas Priest – Redeemer of Souls

Abolition A.D. – After Death Before Chaos

“After Death Before Chaos” is a real treat for black metal fans because Abolition A.D. takes their debut album and gives people a real smasher that can get many people going. This album definitely has a dark theme that many people listen to and enjoy everyday because it’s their kind of music which I’ve got nothing against, of course. People will listen to whatever they listen to. The album has a very raw and destructive sound and feel to it which makes it an all the more better black metal album because that’s what they’re supposed to be. The vocals … Continue reading Abolition A.D. – After Death Before Chaos
